Based on the eyewitness account, the shooting appears justified to me.

you've never been in a walmart and seen teenagers messing around with toy guns? i have.

pretty difficult to justify shooting someone with an air rifle. in my book anyway.

I don't see how they could call this a "toy". It's a gun, plain and simple. Capable of wounding or killing.

That being said, the way the case went down sounds ridiculous.

Kids playing with a toy gun, sure. An adult walking around the store pointing what looks like a real gun at people and then refusing to drop that gun when told to by police and even turning it on police? Well that will get you dead.

we'll see. they've got video. also, this is not the first fatal shooting the officer has been involved in.

Attorney General Mike DeWine has said a special county grand jury will convene Sept. 3 to determine whether criminal charges should be filed in the Wal-Mart shooting.

Williams and Darkow aren't commenting, McHugh said by email Thursday. No home phone listings could be found for the officers.

Beavercreek police said Crawford, 21, was shot after he waved an air rifle at customers and refused officers' orders to drop it. Attorney Michael Wright, who is representing Crawford's family, said this week that surveillance video of the shooting shows it was unjustified.

DeWine showed footage of the shooting to Crawford's relatives and their attorney, but he said the video would not immediately be released to the public. He declined to discuss details of the video.

Wright said in statement Thursday that it was "astonishing" that Darkow was back on the job.

"Apparently Beavercreek concluded its investigation," Wright said. "Otherwise, Officer Darkow would still be on leave."

He said the family is calling on the police department to release the results of its investigation.

That video is pretty damning, for the victim. What part of "drop the gun" did he not understand? It also exposes a big part of the problem, fake guns that look too much like real ones. You can't expect police to make that split second decision. Justified shooting imo.

Take what up with Wal Mart? They sell guns, have for years. But the news calling it a "toy" is what I have a problem with. It shoots pellets and BBs at 750-850 FPS. Used to hunt small game for sure, or shoot targets. Plinking, it's called.

A .22 short, which used to be used in shooting galleries in fairs and carnivals, zips along around 1,045 FPS. Whether you use air or powder to propel it, either gun can be deadly. So the MK-177 is NOT a toy. In fact, let me go look.... (wait here, please) Ahhh yes, just as I suspected. On the VERY FIRST page of the owner's manual: http://www.crosman.com/pdf/manuals/MK-177-515.pdf

"Warning This is not a toy. This air rifle is recommended for adult use only..."

"Warning Do not brandish or display this air rifle in public - it may confuse people and may be a crime..."

i know what an air rifle is.

i thought you were upset that walmart was selling air rifles that could be so easily confused with actual guns.

and i don't know why you're citing the owner's manual - it's not like the guy ever got to actually purchase the thing.

You have to look at the victim. Remember last year, when right after one of those mass shootings, a guy walked into JC Penny's with an AR strapped to his back? He was able to walk in, buy something, and walk out. I'd never even think about doing this because I'd either get shot or be really close to it.

And as you can see, LIB is already looking for the reason he was shot. So, case closed. If this had been a white guy who was gunned down, there would be more hooplah from that side of the house.

Reasons don't matter with you marvin .. anything is just another execution by the white folks...No matter how stupid this person was if what we read is correct. A person is told to put the gun down and he points it at the police....Stupidity in today's world.. It can get you killed no matter what the color of your skin.

yes i can.

and what video have you seen?

Yes, you can. But I believe most people would find that unreasonable, I certainly do.

The video in the link you posted. It does nothing to paint the cops in a bad light. If anything it shows how ridiculous the victim was in ignoring the police commands to drop the gun. It also touches on how fake guns look too much like real ones.
