Hi

My wife has an appointment for citizenship on august 21st. One of the things it says to bring

An original Internal Revenue Service (IRS) Form 1722 listing tax information for the past three years (call IRS toll free at 1-800-829-1040), or copies of the income tax forms you filed for the past three years.

I can't find my last 3 years of taxes since I had to do an amended tax return I called the IRS at the number listed. I asked for Form 1722 the guy was dumfounded and told me he never heard of it and put me on hold. Came back and told me that was an old form and that he would send me my transcripts because that was what they sent to others that have requested tax information for immigration. So he sent me the transcripts.

I then called USCIS to see if that information would work and was rushed off the phone by somebody that told me to go on the web and set an appointment online and drive 400 miles to ask somebody if that was the correct information. I tried to make the appointment online and was told that my office wasn't accepting appointments at this time. I called back the USCIS a 2nd time and was basically told to keep checking the website to see when an appointment becomes available.

Does anybody know if transcripts will work in place of a 1722? also when I opened them with a letter opener 2 of them got cut half ways will they still accept it?

Usually transcripts have the most updated and detailed information, so I believe you should be ok.

Try to call again and talk to a tier 2 officer. It might be a little time consuming but better than driving 400 miles to ask a question.

You can print out your tax transcripts right off your computer from IRS website. If you do this, print out the account transcripts instead of return transcripts or you can print both. I've read here somewhere that account transcripts might have amended tax information on it.

Tax transcripts are acceptable and most preferred tax documents.

"Have faith in God, Jesus answered. I'll tell you the truth. if anyone says to this mountain, Go, throw yourself to the sea, and that does not doubt in his heart but believes that what he says will happen. it will be done for him. Therefore I'll tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours" (MARK 11:22-24)

byronm4, your all set with the transcripts...I just had my interview and that's what I took with me; the officer was very pleased with it as, if you notice on the letter, it does give you the option to bring either the form (which is basically a summarized version of the 3 year period lumped in one single document), or the individual transcripts.

Remind your wife to take her passport with her if she made trips abroad as they will check that as well.

Good luck!

are 3 tax years actually required? When I completed the 864 it said that if I was above the poverty line with only one years return the additonal two years was not required. I make way over the required amount. Do I need to send 2 more years?

Ms Nancy,

Thanks for your silly response. Perhaps you were confused. It was within the VJ guide that I read the reference that 3 years of tax returns were required. Perhaps you can be clear as to what guide you referred to. The USCIS instruction say that if you meet the poverty line requirement you only need your most recent year. Am I misunderstanding something ?
