Is it required that my wife live in the U.S. after entering the country on a CR-1 visa and receiving her GC? She would receive a 10-year GC since we've been married longer than two years.

I'm asking because we may elect to have another child in Canada to appreciate the fantastic pregnancy and maternity benefits. My wife's job is unstable so getting the visa sooner (now) would be a life-line which would allow us/her to take a job in the U.S. with no delay should she get fired from her job in Canada. However, if she becomes pregnant while in Canada she cannot be terminated due to the law and we could continue on here. However, if we've already applies for the CR-1 visa to stay safe and she becomes pregnant and we decide to stay here I'm worried about then not being able to utilize the visa (or utilize it legally) to acquire the GC and to retain the GC.

Can we get the CR-1 visa, get the GC (10-year) and then remain in Canada for 2-3 years? Is that a violation of the conditions of the GC?

If you want her to stay in Canada for children for the next few years you can delay the IR1 visa at the NVC for a few years.
