Hmm the U.N. Ok then. Here's a map of Michigan:

great-lakes-map.jpg

See all those blue things surrounding the state of Michigan? That is the largest fresh water resource in the world! Maybe load up a few jugs, head over to one of them, and fill up. Sorry if I don't feel sorry for them. There's people around the world that would love be near that kind of water resource.

I don't give a if you feel sorry for them or not, I am certainly not asking you to get emotionally involved, just recognise that everyone has a right to fresh water for free and everyone should want their neighbours to have running water for washing and sanitation if they don't want to get involved in serious public health problems.. Being facetious about how many lakes there are in MI and suggesting that somehow that solves a problem for people living in Detroit is pathetic. yeah, it is pathetic. You may or may not be, but this opinion is.

So you want someone washing their di## in your drinking water.

Swell

Care to elaborate? Where do you think their drinking water comes from in the first place?

How many lakes are there in the Detroit neighbourhood? Do you think it's a good idea to have people shitting and peeing in toilets that aren't being flushed and on top of it not being able to wash?

We are makers of these resolution and backers of it. How in the he!! can we expect other people and countries to abide by this if we do not.

I know, you are okay with us going back on our word and ignoring laws and duties of the U.S. when it is convenient. I get it.

So you are telling me there is no fresh drinking water available to these people. That's BS. If I really thought many 1000's could not afford the water bill and that was the root of the problem, fine lets fix it. This is about people just not wanting to pay and getting by with it for years.

what is so sad, there were probably some really needy people that got free water, and all these free loaders messed it up for them. That is the root of the problem in America. You can't help the truly need without the truly sorry as hell jumping on the bandwagon.

No , it was more like they were over at the neighbors house, and the neighbor said, I have not paid my bill in over a year, how about you. Then it became an epidemic.

So tell me if. If these poor souls were stuck in poverty and can't afford the bill.

How is it that after almost every disconnection they find the money to turn it on .

You are right. I see the bandwagon effect that happened. Everyone banded together and decided to vote for Detroit, a city of stanky a$$e$. Gotta love your ideology.

I'm sure these people didn't wake up, yawn and say you know what? Today I am deciding not to pay my water bill because I want my a$$whole to be stanky, my breath, doo doo and pee left in my toilet and no drinking water for me and my family.

I'm sure it was a choice between, rent (because many can't afford to buy a house up there anymore), electricity, food, and what ever little money they had left to get to work to get the little money they are surviving with.

P.s they are giving away houses in Detroit now. In fact can't give them away. Many years of liberal leadership and massive govt programs has done that

Really? How shocking. So, tell me, where do you propose people who have descended into this cycle of poverty access fresh water for washing and drinking and flushing their toilets? They already have no money, so what do they do? As a resident who pays my taxes and my water bills, I don't mind in the least supporting those who are not lucky enough to have these resources, this is water we are talking about, not a ###### cell phone.

Really!

Are you suggesting that tax payers pay the water bills of folks that have had their water shut off? Sure you have a right to water, as long as you pay for it.

Ok. You are suggesting for them to go and get non-strained and non-purified water from the lake that dead things fall in, people fish in, drop their beer bottles in and God knows what else, like wash their d### after sex on the lake, skinny dipping and give it to their kids.

Again, you may think everyone should have a right to free fresh water, but that's not the reality, nor the law. Some lame U.N. resolution does not make it so. When I lived in Thailand I didn't have piped in fresh water. A truck came by once a week and filled up a big vat. When I visited the Bahamas they collected rain water from the roof because they can't drill wells there. So people have to get off their rear to get some water. BFD. People have it much rougher in the majority of the world.

Of course they do. That is why they are making the suggestions.

Gotta love those great minds.

Odd how they find the money when the elixir of life stops flowing

http://www.freep.com/article/20140627/OPINION01/306270026/detroit-water-shutoffs

The department is targeting customers who owe more than $150, and whose accounts are more than 60 days late. Water department representatives are quick to point to the number of residents who, post-shut-off, immediately settled accounts or set up payment plans. About 60% of customers had service restored within 24 hours, and roughly 40% of the rest in 48 hours.

Yet there’s no question that the department’s longstanding history of tolerance for unpaid bills has helped to create a culture that enables nonpayment by those who can afford to. Sound policy would discern who can’t pay, and who won’t, before cutting off service.

It's good enough for most of the world. I don't think you realize the enormity of those lakes and the volume of water they hold. I've drank water from them many times growing up, sometimes unintentionally while swimming.

This is not a personal argument, so don't turn it into one. It's irrelevant which you know and are deliberately trying to make this about whether I personally feel responsible for people in Detroit being deprived of the right to a fundamental resource, water. It's not my personal responsibility, I can do what I like about the issue personally, but it doesn't change the fact that either the US stands up for all its citizens and upholds this fundamental human right or it does not, the US loses yet one more notch in its claim to be a first class place to live which as I live here, I find to be an important issue.

It's not my personal responsibility, .....The liberal creed........liberals continued to deny their personal responsibility and instead said that daddy... the government should take care of the poor. All liberals had to do was make sure the "rich" gave the government enough money.

You cannot even go without one night out on the town or do without that couple of joints. tonight.

In Thailand, they wait for the water truck to come, or collect rain water. Or in my in laws case they have a pump. My 70 year old mother in law goes out there every morning and pumps it.
