The rate of Cholera in Thailand for the last 10 years has been 1 case per 100,000 people. Hardly an epidemic.

Of course it is. I'm not opposed the people getting temporary govt. assistance. The problem I have with it is when it becomes a way of life.

What's your point? You think Cholera isn't a threat when people live in unsanitary conditions? You think that having people shitting in toilets that are not being flushed and can't wash isn't going to result in some outbreak of disease if allowed to continue?

'Trotted'? I am sure that the local church groups will help where hey can. What's your point? Clearly you don't believe that easy access to running water is a right, or even a good way to ensure public health. You have a right to that opinion.

Trotted is a code word now I will have to add that to the list....On the road that I live on Power came here around 1939. Everyone paid $1000 to put up the Electric poles.and string the line. That was when less than 10 years before you could hire a white man to dig ditches for $1/day.. We still had a well when I grew up and I am still on one today. Paid for not by the government but out of our own pocket. If I don't pay for my Electric bill .. No water. No one will care. I still have the ability to put a bucket down one of the wells and bucket it out. Use this life straw or boil my water . But I am not deprived of water. If I had to go to my nearest church to get water or lake or pond I am still not deprived. .. Easy access is not a right... lack of access maybe. only if we went back to the days if the Irish slave days here in America and chained me to the wall.

As has been pointed out no less than 20 times here in this very thread, no one is being denied access to clean water in Detroit. I knew people in Detroit that didn't flush their toilets even when they HAD running water. Unless these folks are drinking out of their own toilets, I hardly see how Cholera is relevant to this discussion, except as a sensationalist way for you to try and make a point.

You think these people just have to sink a well and all will be right in their world again? You don't think people living in unsanitary conditions is a cause for concern? Clearly not. Who knew, not having access to running water in places designed to be lived only if running water is available could cause anyone more than mild inconvenience, and because you have a well and can 'trot off' to the church or whatever that makes everything ok? Unbelievable really. Only in the US could it be argued that running water in the modern home is a luxury that only those who pay their water bills should have. Honestly, I never liked the idea of having water bills period. I know that it is actually meant to help people understand how much water they use and to attempt to make people be more water responsible, but it seems as though this has translated as people actually believing that they are paying the true costs of having running water available in their home? Priceless, maybe if you did have to pay the true costs you wouldn't be so sanguine about the fate of these luckless Detroit residents. Unbelievable.

How are people who have had their water cut off accessing clean water?

The fact that you don't have much understanding of public health issues arising from not having running water in a home designed function with it is not really my problem. Sure, Cholera isn't going to spring up overnight, but you do know that using outside standing pipes and not having drains was the main cause of cholera outbreaks don't you?

Outbreak in Haiti – What Are The Solutions?

Image-of-child-drinking-water-from-bowl-

Another beneficial product that is being distributed in Haiti is the LifeStraw. A product of Vestergaard Frandsen, the LifeStraw addresses the most critical issue in Haiti, and in fighting cholera; having clean drinkable water at point of consumption. LifeStraws cost relatively little to produce (roughly $3 US) and filter water right as needed. Distribution programs also exist to many of the poorest areas in Africa, in hopes of addressing the 6,000 or so deaths everyday, mainly of children, due to unsafe drinking water conditions.

Programs such as these are critical not only in time of emergency, but in developing countries all over the world.

Cholera

We have that covered.

That's what you want to see in the US? People drinking through 'life straws' so you can feel good that you pay for your water and those that don't have theirs cut off? Priceless LIB, I think you have exceeded all my expectations.

A solution for 'developing countries' is going to save the day in the good 'ol US and you have the audacity to say that Obama is ruining America. I tell you one thing, America is a better place for political satire than the UK. No one really holds extreme views in the UK any more. Brilliant.

Soon we will see movie stars flying to Detroit promoting the need for aid and installing wells in the most impoverished parts ensuring clean drinking water.

Yes its costs money to pump water into houses, but how long will it be before hydrants are opened up streets to allow people access to fresh water. This is a sad sign of the demise of the country. Especially when we cant help our own to the necessities of life.

So must for the Inalienable right to life. No water. no life...

It might be better to relocate people out of Detroit and let the city die. But then we would see US citizens on buses being turned away by other US citizens not want these Detroit immigrants in their cozy towns. We truly see the Christian spirit here.

Thank you, goodnight and may your gods go with you",

Once again the problem is not helping those that can't afford water. The problem is almost 50% of the population stopped paying their water bills. Detriot has reached and said it will make arrangements for anyone that ask to set up payments. In almost 100% of the cases people start paying once the valve is closed .

So you knew folks, which equates to me, 1 or 2 people, so you decided that the thousands without water now are okay because 1 or 2 other people didn't want to flush their toilets? Precious

Such a true freaking statement.

People like Lost, Karee and Nature Boy will be blocking the streets with picket signs saying no American immigrants from Detroit allowed.
