Oh yeah; about that. Turns out that $3.67B Of $3.7B Border Request Won’t Be Spent In 2014 Because it's such a big freakin' humanitarian crisis. No hurry, eh?

I am not so much opposed to the request for funds - or even to how the administration was handling this at first. They were working on the immediate needs (overwhelmed, but that happens), mid term (the funds request) and they also were looking at how to stop it (faster processing and reaching out to the countries who were sending them). I'm disappointing that they let special interests that think the problem is not the waves of people at the border - but that we are not opening up and letting everyone in - re-frame their response..

If the UN changes *its* definitions to declare these refugees (which there are murmurs) I think we should just apply it to the current refugee pledge and stop taking in other refugees in exchange.. Then the money allocated for those refugees will go to these newly defined refugees instead... If we eliminated taking in refugees from East Asia and Africa during this crisis that would cover what we are seeing now.. And if more come and push up the numbers even more well they are refugees - we would have to house them all temporarily - but they can go into the pool for other countries like Australia and Germany and Canada (the other big countries that are currently taking in refugees) in the long term.

SAN JOSE — United Nations officials are pushing for many of the Central Americans fleeing to the US to be treated as refugees displaced by armed conflict, a designation meant to increase pressure on the United States and Mexico to accept tens of thousands of people currently ineligible for asylum.

Officials with the UN High Commissioner for Refugees say they hope to see movement toward a regional agreement on that status Thursday when migration and interior department representatives from the US, Mexico, and Central America meet in Nicaragua. The group will discuss updating a 30-year-old declaration regarding the obligations nations have to aid refugees.

The funny thing is that Obama is being blamed for following a law that was signed in 2008....

Snip

I blame Bush for signing this stupid law,. Since it's obvious you opposed this, I assume you also oppose the executive order dream act Obama signed and or the first lady speaking at the convention of United Latin American Citizens, urging more illegal immigration.

Is it bad when Bush did nothing and actually made it worse, but Ok when obama did just a bad and worse.

Administration officials admit the $3,700,000,000 won't be for immediate humanitarian needs:

President Obama’s new border spending request will pay for schooling, health care and lawyers for the unaccompanied illegal immigrant children surging across the border, officials told Congress on Thursday as they pleaded for quick action on the $3.7 billion package.

Sounds like the preznit wants to make sure they're comfy for a nice long stay.

Don't forget: the alternative to spending $3.7 billion on them is to spend $8 million on first-class plane tickets back to their lands of origin. Obviously a more cost-effective way to deal with the crisis, but as Rahm used to brazenly bray in public, "Never let a crisis go to waste".

i'm hopeful.

I wouldn't hold my breath. These people have no concept of how debt works or even the different types of debt a nation can incur; not to mention complete unawareness of how debt is serviced or amortized, or even how it is calculated, for that matter.

They look at the national debt with the same gullible simplicity and amazement of a child looking an Ames room for the first time.

They make great mortgage holders though...
