Now would be good, no point risking it.

now?? don t u think it s soon??I want to be able to visit him on christmas

You can visit while a petition is being processed.

Plan for it to take up to a year from start to finish (putting together the initial paper work to POE). Often takes less time, but better safe than sorry.

You can start immediately! Better be ready than wait for it!
The visa is valid for 6 months from the date of your medical examination (last step before your interview), so even if you get it too early (that would be in about 6-7 months from the moment they receive your fiance's initial application), you will still have plenty of time to enter the country and get married within the 90 days time frame.

As others said, you can still visit him, while the procedure is ongoing.

Good luck on your visa journey!
