Hello!

So I finally got my interview scheduled for July 25th. However, my husband lost his job in this meantime. I plan on bringing a new i864 + one for my co sponsor (my father in law). Does my mother in law needs to file a i864a?

Thanks!

From what I just read in the form instructions, a sponsor's household member only needs to file an I-864a if the sponsor plans to "make their income/assets available to the sponsor to support the intending immigrant".

If your father in law's income on the I-864 is enough to support a household of 3 (him, his wife, you), then your mother in law does not need to file an I-864a. See the poverty guidelines for household sizes.

Note: this is just my limited understanding from looking into this form and its instructions. More experienced members can probably tell you more.

Thank you very much for your help. That's what I understood too. His income is the main income of the household and it's plenty for a household of 3, so I think I'll just have him file a i864!

Thanks again! :)
