  1. 1. Does this prove that Glenn Beck was right when he said Obama "has a deap-seated hatred for white people, or white culture"?

The United States Patent and Trademark Office has canceled the Washington Redskins trademark registration, calling the football team’s name “disparaging to Native Americans.”

The landmark case, which appeared before the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board, was filed on behalf of five Native Americans.

...

Federal trademark law does not permit registration of trademarks that “may disparage” individuals or groups or “bring them into contempt or disrepute.”

It's been done before. When I was a kid one jam manufacturer used a "gollywog" to market its products. It was banned as demeaning even though it had essentially lost the original connection to racial stereotyping. It is understandable and once recognized as such should be universally applied to any marketing tool that breaches these recommendations.

Refusing to use the spellchick!

I have put you on ignore. No really, I have, but you are still ruining my enjoyment of this site. .

Hmm that seems to happen somewhere else.

I saw that on FB and thought it was a joke . Don't people have anything better to do.

I do agree it may be a bit offensive to some

Finding obscure trademarks that have no relevance is a bit far fetched don't you think? This is a football team that is virtually universally known, even I've heard of them. I am not a native American, but yet I can appreciate that this caricature of their culture is offensive EVEN THOUGH no one intends it to be and that's the rub. The caricature of Native Americans as feather wearing redskins is an outward expression of a good deal of ignorance about Native American culture and as such shouldn't really have a prominent place in modern society. No one really gives a hoot about a trademark that isn't in daily use and no one has heard of.

I remember that brand! As an infant I played with a gollywog that my mother had knitted me. It was my favourite toy!!

Can we have a team called white skins or crackers.
