hey,

im filling up the ds 260 form and i am on the previous education part. i have a few questions i need help with.

1) "Have you attended any educational institutions at a secondary level or above?" what is secondary level equivalent to? is it grade 6?

2) "Number of educational institutions attended". i have to enter a number here... so here's my educational history...

i was enrolled in the same school from lower kindergarten to grade 10 for a total duration of 12 years. then i did my high school (grade 11 and 12) from another college. Then i graduated with a bachelor's degree from another university. And now i am enrolled at another university for a master's degree but i dont have the master's degree yet... so what number should i enter? 3? or 4?

3) Since I dont have the master's degree yet, should i just enter the fields up to my bachelor's degree?

4) The form wants me to enter all the enrollment date from beginning to end for each degree. i dont think i can manage to get the records dating back to 1992 when i first joined kindergarten, should i just assume an approximate date?

thanks

As far as I know, without knowing every detail of how schooling works for your country, they're looking for high school onwards. So in your case, I believe this would be grade 11 until present.

Met in 2010 on a forum for a mutual interest. Became friends.
2011: Realized we needed to evaluate our status as friends when we realized we were talking about raising children together.

2011/2012: Decided we were a couple sometime in, but no possibility of being together due to being same sex couple.

June 26, 2013: DOMA overturned. American married couples ALL have the same federal rights at last! We can be a family!

June-September, 2013: Discussion about being together begins.

November 13, 2013: Meet in person to see if this could work. It's perfect. We plan to elope to Boston, MA.

March 13, 2014 Married!

May 9, 2014: Petition mailed to USCIS

May 12, 2014: NOA1.
October 27, 2014: NOA2. (5 months, 2 weeks, 1 day after NOA1)
October 31, 2014: USCIS ships file to NVC (five days after NOA2) Happy Halloween for us!

November 18, 2014: NVC receives our case (22 days after NOA2)

December 17, 2014: NVC generates case number (50 days after NOA2)

December 19, 2014: Receive AOS bill, DS-261. Submit DS-261 (52 days after NOA2)

December 20, 2014: Pay AOS Fee

January 7, 2015: Receive, pay IV Fee

January 10, 2015: Complete DS-260

January 11, 2015: Send AOS package and Civil Documents
March 23, 2015: Case Complete at NVC. (70 days from when they received docs to CC)

May 6, 2015: Interview at Montréal APPROVED!

May 11, 2015: Visa in hand! One year less one day from NOA1.

Secondary school depends on the country, but it can start in grade 7 - 11. In your case it seems your high school would be considered secondary education.

So for you:

1) Yes you have attended school at a secondary level or above.

2) Put 3, since at a secondary level or above, you attended 3 schools

3) If you're referring to the question "Highest level of education completed" then yes you'd select university with degree.

4) Its implied to apply to secondary schools and above, so enter dates for high school, university and the second university. Best estimate dates are ok if you can't remember specific dates.

There is no harm in entering everything, but it is ok -- and most people do it -- to only enter from high school and above.
