ATLANTA — A family says a SWAT team raided their home in the middle of the night and seriously injured a 19-month-old boy with a stun grenade.

Alecia Phonesavanh told Channel 2’s Ryan Young her child is at the Grady Memorial Hospital burn unit, and is in a medically induced coma.

Phonesavanh said she was at her sister-in-law’s home in Habersham County early Wednesday when police raided the house.

"It's my baby. He's only a baby. He didn't deserve any of this," Phonesavanh said.

Phonesavanh told Young the grenade landed in the child’s crib; she showed him a photo of a charred portable crib.

"It landed in his playpen and exploded on his pillow right in his face," Phonesavanh said.

I am one who tends to side with cops when they use force simply because I believe bad people get whatever is coming to them, but this is far above and beyond what should be reasonable force in this case. A stun grenade for a "no knock warrant" being served at 2am is overkill and irresponsible.

No Knock raids need to end in most cases. Lots of tragic outcomes

This is just horrible. They could have watched the house and then waited for people to come out and arrest them. There are just better ways of doing things. The police in another state shot and killed a little girl in the home of a "known" drug dealer. The guy said he thought it was a suspect. At 3 feet tall?

Aiyana Mo'Nay Stanley Jones (July 20, 2002 – May 16, 2010), was a seven-year-old girl from the East Side of Detroit, Michigan who was shot and killed during a raid conducted by the Detroit Police Department's Special Response Team on May 16, 2010.[1] Her death drew national media attention[2] and led U.S. Representative John Conyers to ask U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder for a federal investigation into the incident.

exactly just like Waco and a case here in which a deputy was killed executing a no knock

What's a no knock?

A warrant where they just mass at the door at bust in screaming with guns drawn. Many times just because someone said they sold drugs there. There have been many cases when they made mistakes and people died. I know you come blasting in my house in the middle of the night, you gonna get shot

Phonesavanh said she was at her sister-in-law’s home in Habersham County early Wednesday when police raided the house.

...

Deputies said they bought drugs from the house, and came back with a no-knock warrant to arrest a man known to have drugs and weapons.

...

They arrested Wanis Thometheva, 30, during the raid.

It's never a good idea to take one's child to a drug dealer's home, is it?

So it's ok to let kids die because their parent made a bad choice .. ####### are you a Republican now.

P.S. don't you mean alleged drug dealer

No, it's not okay. Where did I say it's okay? It's never okay when a child gets hurt. But for the parents to blame this entirely on the police and not take a damn look in the damn mirror for their irresponsible actions that ultimately led to their child getting hurt is just ridiculous. I know that as a parent, I would never go to a place where crimes are committed, let alone take my child there.

Good show, people should be responsible for their actions UNLESS faced with the brutal, govmint police force, then it's all the fault of the dickhead police. Gotta love that logic

Mind you, I don't agree with shoot first ask questions later no matter if it's a citizen or a police person, it's just a stupid policy.

Refusing to use the spellchick!
