My Muslim friends tell me they're not allowed to say "Salam" to a non-Muslim. Is this a widespread belief?

Salam is an arabic word and arabic existed long before Islam. All arabs use the word salam, its not tied to any religion.

Understood, but is that a widespread belief among Muslims? My interactions are mostly with subcontinental Muslims and I have heard that among them over the years quite a bit.

No one that I've ever encountered has ever had this reaction. I don't think it's widespread based on totally unscientific "that's crazy" reasoning.

How can one claim God cares to judge a fornicator over judging a lying, conniving bully? I guess you would if you are the lying, conniving bully.

"poisoned by a jew" sounds like a Borat song

Allah tries his chosen people through many hardships, but those who persevere through adversity, surrendering themselves before the will of Allah, shall be blessed with a superb reward.

-The Prophet Muhammad (SAW), as reported by Anas bin Malik

A time will come when the sky is torn apart; when the stars scatter, and the ocean drains away; and when the graves are tossed about, and laid open. At that time every man will be told what he has done, and what he has failed to do; and every woman will be told what she has done, and what she has failed to do.

-Qur'an, Al-Infitar, Surah 82:1-5

Does any here Muslims and non-Muslims think if someone said salaami (like the pork meat) to your greetings of salaams... would this offend you?

Sorry I am bored and wondering... cos someone brought this up and I was like  I laughed but then thought O snaps... maybe I should not laughed. But still I am laughing.

Sorry if anyone thinks this post is too stupid....

You are definately bored

 But seriously, I did not like how this particular person just thought they could ram into my conversation and basically condemn me to hell, by saying this. I wanted to say something, but I held my tongue. :innocent:

Actually this some wordplay I guess I adopted from my ex. He used to say Salaami bolgne when he greeted his *close people*... so I kinda adopted, leaving out the bolgne part. But O snaps was I really to tell this female to sod off or stuff it.

You should have asked her - you think I'm going to hell? Then you should have said you disagree. Then you should have punched her in the face and said, now I'm going to hell but it'll be worth it.

Man is made by his belief. As he believes, so he is.

At first I would just correct the person, but if it happened again I would take it offensively.
