Has anyone else had major delays getting their marriage certificates? We dropped ours off at the main county clerk's office and they keep telling us that it won't be processed for 6-8 weeks. We call in every few days and get told to check back in a month! It's been 2 weeks since our wedding and I thought you could pick up your marriage certificate in a week or two. I'm getting nervous since we wanted to file before his 90 days were up but it's looking less likely to happen now.

I have seen people in CA offer to walk their cert over to the clerk's office to get recorded and get it back the same day. You could use the advanced search function for some reports. Good luck.

Here in TX it took us 2 months to get ours in the mail. It is the norm here and I didn't know until I called a month after our wedding and I found out.

I don't know if yours is remotely the same, but I know someone here in Houston from the UK. They told her it would be months. That seemed weird to me so I made a call the the Harris County Clerk's office for her. There was some miscommunication of terminology because they apparently no longer keep paper records in old dusty books. So it was going to take months for them to create the digital record and send the actual only original back to her.

BUT the marriage was already recorded and she could pick up a certified copy (suitable for immigration) at any of 10 sub-stations immediately, which she did. So maybe dig a little deeper or get somebody else who's not afraid to ask a thousand questions...why so long? ...you know she has a limited time because of immigration? ...three months doesn't cut it. That's when it clicked that a certified copy was Immediately available, but not the original.

Mine in the lesser populated (Texas) county to the south was filed in a record book and I will never get the original, but a certified copy is sufficient. I got mine the morning after the wedding So it can vary even by places 40 miles apart and how they do their records. Worth a shot to ask more questions or say "certified copy" instead of "marriage certificate". Who knew? I didn't.
