If China's military Engineers are up to date this time it coud be short work.

Maybe not, but their kit will be up-to-date, not 30 years out-of-date, all their troops will have assault weapons, not just the officers, and they will have a command structure that works. They will roll in numbers, not just a limited package they went with in 1979. And they will leverage the PLAAF and the Navy, instead of shackling them, as they did last time. Vietnam can't match that.

China has been rearing for a fight. I doubt they will invade to be honest. I think they are posturing. Hopefully.

wasn't the 'Mandarin' system in Vietnam for a coupla centuries (or more) then they got kicked out?

IMO/E, Chinese Businessmen have tried to instate a new version of it, but these BusinessMen work for state-run companies...

Maybe China will request Vietnam to allow its military inside to protect its chinese citizen and chinese business properties

France is already allowing Chinese Police to patrol Paris to protect the chinese tourists.

I think when the carpert bombing comes the white flag will be out. Their rocket launchers lone will ensure nice and easy troop movement southward into Hanoi.

That didn't pass the smell test, so I googled. And whaddaya know, it's nonsense, just like I suspected.

The French government has poured cold water on reports that police officers from China will help patrol the streets of Paris to protect Chinese tourists.

French Foreign Affairs Minister Laurent Fabius told reporters on the sidelines of a trip to Beijing his country had its own officers to protect Chinese visitors.

Reuters said last week, citing an anonymous interior ministry source, that the details of the Chinese police officers' deployment had not been finalised, but they should arrive sometime in June.

Fabius did not directly comment on the reports, but said: "France has police to maintain safety and we will make efforts to let the tourists feel safe."
