I'm more concerned than confused at the moment, so here is the scenario, I've known my woman 3+ years. we finally decided to tie the knot. I been looking around the forums, doing some research, asking questions to better inform myself before I start the process. Now the problem that came up with is i'm disabled (have been that way since day 1), the only income I receive at the moment is SSDI, which is only about 700$ (which does not meet the I-134 Affidavit requirements). Due to this I have family members who are more then willing to step in as co-sponsors, given my current situation. It's been 50/50, some say that the Ph consulate does allow co-sponsors and others say they do not, does anyone have a definite answer? Or does anyone know who I can call or email to get this cleared up before I start the process.

The US embassy in Manila very rarely allows co-sponsors for the K1 fiance visa; they do allow them for the CR-1 spousal visa.

For the K1, they usually only allow them if the main sponsor will earn well soon, such as a student about to graduate.

If you call the embassy and get to talk to someone knowledgeable they will tell you the embassy does not accept co-sponsors with the K-1. Only know that because someone did just that and that was the answer received... but that is not exactly true.

Now with that said, the embassy does accept co-sponsors with the K-1 on a case by case basis, at best you have a 50/50 chance of getting them to accept a co-sponsor. I do know of a fair number from here on VJ that have been approved using a co-sponsor with the K-1 visa. I also know of a few that were denied using a co-sponsor with the K-1.

To guarantee that a co-sponsor is accepted you need to do the IR/CR-1 spousal visa, the embassy has to accept a qualified co-sponsor with that visa. So if you want guarantees... do the spousal visa.
