DV2015 Winner... Some queries

Hi there,

I've been selected for further processing for the DV2015 lottery, with a case number OC14XX.

I think this is high-ish, but I've scrolled the boards and read all the stats for the last 10 years, and I feel fairly confident that I'll eventually get an interview. I have a couple of queries though, if someone wouldn't mind helping me out.

1) I'm actually engaged to be married, and I'll be holding off submitting my DS-260 until after the date (June 19th), so I can add him to my case. I believe this delay won't hold me up at all as my case number is on the high side, but I'm wondering if it will actually have an effect on my case? Are they generally as happy to approve visa for couples as they are for singles? And my partner is a British citizen, does that matter?

2) I would like to be on top of all the paperwork as early as possible, but is it too early to get the medical and the police checks done if I'm probably a year away from interveiw? My worry with the police checks is that both my partner and I have lived in Australia and the UK, and I'm wondering how long it's all going to take. I feel it risky to wait until I know when my interview is.

Thanks in advance!

Your interview will be for june august 2015.

Yes you can delay your application until you finished getting married, I think it will be the best option.

Bear in mind that you will still have to prove that your mariage is genuine and not a GC one ! ... So photos and emails... will help to prove your case ...

Your hasband being a british national won't affect your aplication at all ! I know that because my DV friend is on the same boat :)

Good luck

I'm not an official or an attorney!

Its all about a guess work...

I'm just a DVHOLIC :)

Thanks for that! We've been together for 6 years, and moved countries once already together, so proving it's validity shouldn't be difficult. My only slight worry is that financially we have been (and always will be) independant of each other, so no joint banks accounts or anything of that sort. Lots of holiday pictures over the years, and of us together in both Australia and England, so hopefully that will suffice.

Vladek's answered the first bit. Yes it's too soon for the others, because they all have expiries. You generally can't book the medicals until you have your interview notification anyway - I assume you're aware that the medicals can only be done by an approved doctor, and there are generally only one or two approved practices per country. The police certificates you can start earlier, but check how long they are valid for (for most countries it is either 6 or 12 months). If you don't have the documents at the interview but everything else is good, they will just put the visa production on hold until you send the missing documents in.

Great thanks for that. I had a feeling I may not be able to do it yet. And yes I was aware that the medicals have to be done by an approved doctor, hopefully one of the UK approved ones is in London. Although I assume they would be. And it's good to know that we can send any missing documents later, thanks again for your help.

Panel doctor is in London. You will be able to book your appointment once your number gets current and you have your interview scheduled (you need to give them your CN number and appointment date I believe). You have to have your police certificate ready for the medicals and one photo per person (standard visa size photo). They will send the results, certificate and the photo to the embassy.

You have to have your police certificate ready for the medicals

:huh:

Obviously London-specific... good to know for those doing it there. And one of the advantages of having people from different places chipping in!

Don't mind chipping in. Have known all the requirements since May last year and have everything as far as possible ready. In standby mode now - just hoping to get current :)

Here's what you need for your medicals in LND:

Forms and documents that must be presented to the examining physician on the day of the appointment:

A photograph for each person attending the medical, including babies. The specifications of the photograph are the same as those obtained for the visa;

Vaccination records for each person attending the medical, including babies. Vaccination records are dependent on age. See chart on pages 7 & 8;

Passport, driving license or photo license;

Police certificate issued by ACPO (applicants aged 16 and over only);

Medical questionnaire which is printed on page 9 of this packet much be completed for each person attending a medical, including babies; and

Applicants who have ever been treated for Tuberculosis (TB) are required to bring all medical and specialist reports relating to the diagnosis and treatment.

I had some correspondence with my CP about police checks. In general they have to cover the whole period of your stay and its ok if they are a bit older than one year if you have not been back that that country in the mean time. For example I lived in Moscow 15 years ago,,,my police check is a year old...CP stated that it was ok if I had not been back.
