Hello all,

A bit of a long story but a remarkable ending. Phan and I met while I was serving as a Peace Corps volunteer in Thailand. Our journey started with our I-129 K1 application. Phan has an older sister who has cared for her as a mother all her life. Her sister is now in the final stages of terminal cancer. We applied for an expedite on these grounds. The agent was very compassionate and said we would hear something back within five days, most likely a request for evidence. The five days passed and I had heard nothing so I phoned USCIS. The agent was very rude and scolded me for calling and told me not to call back for 30 days.

This angered me so I sent an email to my congressman who then did a congressional inquiry. In hindsight I think this actually slowed things a bit as fast as cases were being processed in California. We received a RFE because I thought the letter of intent was only mine. We sent her signed letter of intent in and received our NOA2 prior to ever receiving a decision on our expedite request. Uknown to me my sister was shared my frustration with the agent at USCIS and their perceived lack of action and she wrote a letter to President Obama. She used a lot of detail describing my military record and recent Peace Corps service. She included pictures of a time I met President Obama when he came to Thailand. A few volunteers were allowed to go to the embassy staff meet and greet. I was lucky. She also included pictures of Phans sister in the ICU in dire condition.

Our case moved on to NVC and I didn't bother requesting an expedite with them thinking it was pointless. In normal time we received our packet 3 and we had the documents prepared and returned them to the embassy quickly. We bribed the police check station to do her background check prior to receiving our packet 3 letter. So two days later the embassy called Phan and I had been unable to attach a digital photo to the DS-160 form but it had told me to just bring a photo to the interview, so I was not worried. The IV staffer was insistent that Phan attach a photo to the form. Phan left work and the IV lady called Phan 3x that day assisting her. Finally Phan went to a photo shop and had them attach the photo. The lady called back and asked Phan what day she wanted her interview? I thought this was amazing service. I have not read of anyone receiving service like this before. So she gave Phan the first available interview May 1.

At her interview she was called 1st after a short wait. A Thai lady asked her just a couple questions in Thai, and told her to have a seat, her boss wanted to speak to her. Ten minutes later they called her to the window to speak to a red haired lady. The lady in english only wanted to know how was Phans sister doing. phan told her she was not doing well and would die soon. The lady then told her she was happy to give her her visa.

Last night my sister called me and excitedly read to me the letter received from President Obamas office stating they had opened an inquiry with the USCIS and assigned a case number. Because of privacy they could not share details but they would inquire. The letter was dated April 22.

I think our speedy approval was most likely a result of the Presidential Inquiry but the letter was inquiring to USCIS not NVC or the State Dept. So maybe it was only coincidence. i am not 100% sure.

I'm confused... and I hope this doesn't sound rude... but you requested an Expedite for K-1 Visa because her sister who cared for her as a Mother all her life is in the last stages of dying from terminally ill cancer.... so your Fiance needs to leave her to come the usa quicker?

Or is this a family expedite for the sister and your now Wife is already here? And wanting to bring her sister to die in the USA?

Also in your attachment you might want to crop that image to actually protect your Sisters name and address as well as other personally identifiable data. The internet ain't what it's framers intended.... well maybe it is... and then some.. either way; you should remove that data. IMO

NOTE: Actual sent date unknown due to lawyer negligence - I delivered ALLForms and PAID Lawyer on Nov 7, 2012 - Lawyer kept saying he sent the packet and USCIS must have lost it. When in reality he failed to send the package and only a new copy to USCIS after I made a legal written demand giving him 10 days to perform or return ALL monies paid to him, due to "non-performance".

(IMO it's better to save your money for visits to or from your Fiancé and just fill it out yourself using the K-1 Guide on VJ and Senior Members... They Rock!!!)

Congratulations.

February 28- AOS package sent. ( I-130, I-485, I-765)
March 5- Package delivered to USCIS Chicago.
March 11- Email and text notification with Receipt Numbers.
March 14- Hardcopy of NOA1 for all three applications.
March 21- Received biometrics appointment letter for 04/04/2014
April 2 - Completed Walk in Biometrics appointment successfully. (Original Appointment was for 4th April)
April 9- I-485 Case status has been updated to " Testing & Interview "
April 16- Text and email alert for case update for AOS interview on 22nd May 2014.
April 18- Hardcopy of Interview notice received in mail.
May 22- AOS interview, approved on the spot and got stamp in my passport.
May 27 - Approval notice of I-130 and I-485 in mail.
May 29- Received GC in mail.
