How to politicize a normally religous event

Given her millions she could have at least offered them a pedicure since she was using them and this event for political purposes.

Nancy Pelosi has embraced her religious roots and joined forces with Bishop Marc Andrus to — as she put it — “honor the dignity and work of immigrants” by taking bended knee and washing feet at Saint John the Evangelist Episcopal Church in San Francisco.

Mrs. Pelosi’s official Twitter account sent out the picture of the Democratic House Minority Leader washing the feet of two children, alongside the bishop.

And social media reaction was mixed, at best, with some accusing her of using the Easter season to stage a political prop.

Her tweet: “Honored to be in the Mission to assist Bishop Andrus as he washes the feet of immigrant families.”

And tweeted responses: “@NancyPelosi u r such a phony multi millionaire,” said one.

Another: “@NancyPelosi is this another dem voter registration drive?”

And one more: “@NancyPelosi this has to be the photo op of all photo ops!”

SFGate reported the Democratic leader did take advantage of the occasion to peddle some pro-immigrant policy, speaking to the crowd assembled of the benefits of HR15, a measure criticized by Republicans as amnesty.

Her office, however, claims it would “reduce the deficit by nearly $1 trillion, secure our borders, unite our families, protect our workers and provide an earned pathway to citizenship,” SFGate reported.

Ms. Pelosi’s foot-washing ceremony coincided with a similar ceremony that Pope Francis just performed in Rome, in honor of Holy Week ahead of Easter.

Example- The foot washing represents a humbling of ones self by washing a lesser persons feet.

Washing the feet of migrants is not big deal, if she wanted to be true to the spirit of the event she should have washed Rush limbaughs chubby feet.

That would have had some meaning.

Now say "All politicians that use religion to further their career are phony idiots" Say it now so that I may decide whether you're being a partisan hack or use against you it next time you side with someone over "In God we Trust" or the Pledge of allegiance or some other equally ridiculous red herring rally cry.

True, all politicians try to give the impression they are part of every group.... thats why when John Kerry was running, he suddenly was into hunting (LOL).

And that stuff is expected, but taking part in "religious acts" as a photo op is over the line a bit. That is different than showing up at a service or showing respect or going to meet various groups.

* No one can think for a minute there are not those on the right don't play the "born again Christian" skit to win over that demographic... which is why they generally are ran out of office when they are exposed.

One doesn't have to be faking to exploit something. Maybe he was, maybe he wasn't, how would anyone know? Bush used his religious affiliation constantly.
