driving license while waiting the green card

Hi,

I am currently in USA and I am waiting for the AOS. I sent all the documents and waiting for the interview.

My question is: Can I get a californian driving license while I am waiting for the green card? Because I know I can use my French driving license for three months (during tourist/waiver visa) but My tourist/waiver visa is already expired. Does anyone have a solution for me?

You will be able to get a CA drivers license with your Social Security number & EAD. You'll get both of these before your green card, assuming you've applied for them.

The I-94 is what you get when you come into the US with your K-1. We read this to mean that you CAN get your driver's license before your green card AND before your EAD. Have either of you gone to the DMV to ask? I'm headed there this week sometime to get my tags for my plate. I'll ask then.

Hi,

Based on my experience I got my driver's license (in New York) using my I-551 stamp in my passport provided right after our interview. Make sure you get your passport stamped before you leave the service center.

I just got the mail for the USCIS and my appointment for the interview is on May 14th.

I have a quick question about that: When I arrived in California, me and my husband were living at his parents place but we moved out in our appartement now. The problem is that when we filled the documents for the AOS we put his parents address and we dont know if we should tell them that we change the address because I got the mail one month after sending my documents, so they could wonder if I knew that I would move out when I filled the documents. If someone can give me advice?

1) if you are staying in the same state with your husband parent, or not far from them, you can always go there and pick your mail from there... So far you don't have issues with them before moving out.

2) you can call the 1-800 to inform them of your new address and there is no wrong/harm in doing that.

I was confused by this, so I went directly to the DMV to ask yesterday and spoke to 2 separate people about it. YES, you can get your Ca drivers license before AOS, before marriage actually. You need a passport, your drivers license from your former country, and your I-94, which you obtain once you've entered the country and they cancel your K1. You take the written test (36 questions) and if you pass, they issue you a temp license. that license expires when the I-94 does, so if you adjust status and get the stamp or your EAD before the 90 days is up it continues with no problems. if it expires, you just need to quit driving until you get the next document, then let them know and it's reinstated.
