Evidence of Support question (i134 related)

Within my packet 3 it states:

"Applicants may submit a letter from the petitioner’s employer or evidence that they will be self-supporting. The Form I-134, Affidavit of Support, may be required when the consular officer deems it useful."

Does this mean that I (the beneficiary) can also use my own saving and assets to demonstrate I will not become a public charge, or is this just in reference to other types of evidence that should be brought with the petitioner's i-134 information.

Thanks!

Melissa

The I-134 can only be filled-out by the sponsor. So all information detailed in the form should be in reference to him only. That being said, "self-supporting" refers to your sponsor's capacity to be independent.

I believe, someone can corrected me if I am wrong, that beneficiaries can sponsor themselves. Some embassies accepted for instance, the US embassy in London.

-I am the beneficiary and my post is not reflecting my petitioner's point of views-

I think that means beneficiary can be a sponsor of herself. That's why it says "I-134 form may be required when the consular deems it useful". Someone can stand and corrected me wrong.

I think London is the only embassy that occasionally allows self-sponsorship: http://london.usembassy.gov/faffidavit.html

But I can't find anything similar to US consulates in Canada.

Perfect, thanks!

Sweetmelicious, maybe best to call your embassy if they allow self-sponsorship, and what are the types of financial evidence they accept, if so.

In any case, I still believe it's best that you bring an I-134 signed by your petitioner to your interview, regardless if they will ask for it or not.

I agreed. Better to make a call for a clear explanation or ask fellows on VJ from Canada. Each consulate/embassy has their own requirements.
