Hi Guys,

I have been a permanent resident here since February. I would like to bring my dog over and I dont know where to start.

I live in NY state. I would like to bring my dog through Lufthansa in September. Would that be possible? What are the steps to make this happen?

My dog is big so he will come in cargo. How much should I expect to pay?

thanks

All you will need is a health certificate from your vet showing proof she is current with her shots. If you can get an international health certificate, it is even better.

You need to call LH, book the pet - they will tell you what their restrictions are and how much it will cost you.

Upon arrival to the US, you will collect your pet with the oversized bags and go through customs, at which point they will ask for the health certificate.

It is really not complicated at all.

The airline's rules are the biggest factor. To bring a dog into the USA, they must be current on their rabies vaccine, with a certificate from a certified vet. If the dog hasn't had a rabies vaccine, it must get one at least 30 days before traveling, or be coming from a country that is certified free of rabies. Countries with screwworm and shepherding breeds, also need a health certificate that they are free from screwworm.
