Received documents from Embassy - several months to process?

So today, I received my packet from the US Embassy in tokyo. They've requested a list of documents which I've prepared, or am preparing, but I have a couple of questions. I've also been asked to prepare the DS-160

1. An original birth certificate is requested. I've got a certified extract from the general registrar of Scotland in long form. Does this count as "original"?

2. My previous passports are requested. The last one I had ended in 2007, and I did enter america on it. To my knowledge, it's been destroyed. Will this be a problem?

3. On form DS-160, should the section marked "Application Receipt/Petition Number" be the USCIS receipt number, or the NVC case number?

Also, as a final note - the letter states that when I send this off, it could take several months before anything further can be done. Is that a realistic estimate?

Petition number is generally USCIS and application number is the embassy number.

As for Q #1, you have to read the embassy web site, as the rules differ. Generally certified copies from a government will always do, but in our case (Philippines) we were told must have certified copies from the national office, not from any county or town registrar. I guess US does not trust local Philippine goverments. The point is you have to read the embassy's requirements to be sure, but some certified copy from some government will surely do. Just a question of which one.

Can't help you on #2. Don't know anything about it.

Congrats on receiving your packet!

Generally, anything certified by your government(trusted by U.S. Officials) should be fine. However, best thing you can do is call the Embassy where you will be doing your interview and ask (there should be a specific time alloted to answering immigrant and K-1 questions only).

You might need to get involved with the UK Embassy in Tokyo in order to have police records from Scotland authenticated too!

as far as application receipt/petition number, you are looking for the number you were first assigned when ypur petition was sent in, so the USCIS one!
