Hi All. Sorry for the long silence. I've been in Singapore and Thailand for all of February. My fiancee finally received her K-1 Visa on February 9, the same day I arrived in Singapore. She came home with me and entered the USA on February 23. We hope to marry next week, and then it's on to the "fun"of filing for a Green Card.

Having just read the instructions for the green card application, it sounds like we'll need to complete a lot of the same forms we did when we were applying for the Visa which, of course, makes no sense to me at all. When my fiancee received her Visa she also received a packet of materials on which was written "Do Not Open". This was given to the Customs agent upon entry into the USA. Customs kept the package so we have no idea what was in it. I'm assuming it's the records and forms that were filed previously with the US embassy in Bangkok.

So does anyone know if we really need to do a biometrics, passport photo, copies of birth certificate, vaccination supplement, affidavit of support all over again? Shouldn't these be on file or perhaps in the packet given to Customs? And what is an I-94 form? All we got when she cleared Customs was her Passport with a date stamp.

Sorry for all the thread drift but after all the work we've done to date, it seems as though we're starting over. I hope I'm just misreading the instructions. Anyoen want to share their green card story?

Just for the record, it took 1 year and two months from the date the application was received at USCIS until the Visa was granted.

Follow this guide: http://www.visajourney.com/content/k1k3aos

You will need duplicates of some items like her foreign birth certificate, passport photos. The affidavit of support for AOS is the I-864, so yes a new one is needed. She will also have a biometrics appointment she has to attend.

As to whether she needs to get her vaccination supplement filled out by a civil surgeon, see this post by Nich-Nick: http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/450310-do-i-still-need-to-see-a-civil-surgeon-in-the-us-for-aos/#entry6465723

I-94 can be retrieved online now, here: https://i94.cbp.dhs.gov/I94/request.html

It took me about 3 months from filing AOS to the green card, the timeline however varies depending on your local office.

Yes, some of the documentation will be the same, some new, the I-864, etc. The "Do Not Open" packet contained a copy of you K-1 petition and all your supporting documentation (it will part of your file at your AOS interview if you get one), copies of the medical exam etc. And yes, your wife will need to do a biometrics, takes like 10 minutes. The I-94 you now print from the website (not sure which one as we got the old paper one).

From filing to approval was 84 days. My wife's AP/EAD card arrived the day before our interview and the GC arrived 10 days after the interview. Good luck.
