My wife's IV application is currently being processed at the NVC and we would like to prepare for the immunizations and medical portion. Can anyone provide some insight on how the immunization and medical process works? She needs to get all of the immunizations and is under the impression she can receive them at the medical appointment, is this correct? Or is there a recognized clinic in the Beijing area that can provide the immunizations in advance? Any info would be greatly appreciated!

In my wife's case she got the shots before the actual medical appointment and they gave her documents showing proof of vaccine and they took them at the medical appointment. She got them for free from her normal doctor so this way she didn't have to pay for them. You may be able to do the same thing as long as they give your spouse proper documentation of the shots and then the doctor for the medical appointment can review them.

I think it's the same process as K1. She will interview in Guangzhou. You can simply walk-in the day before the interview and get the medical taken care of...no appointment necessary. Go in the morning and get your results in the afternoon. The medical clinic is across the street from the consulate.

immunizations are 'age-approrpriate' so the shots a 48 year old would receive are not the same as a 24 year old.

Although it may be deemed fun to chase after the medical stuff in BeiJing, I suggest, instead, to factor in 1 to 2 additional days for the Guangzhou trip, getting the medical exam (with immunizations) done prior to interview day.

If she goes in first thing in the morning, she can get the results in the late afternoon. No appointment needed, simply go.

BeiJing, otoh, usually requires an appointment in advance, and they are not fast, at all.

as to 'when' to worry about immunizations and whatnots, I say worry about it:

1. after the interview letter is in hand, showing the appointment date at GUZ IV and

2. 1 to 2 business days prior to the GUZ IV interview date.

and get it all done in Guangzhou. The medical exam place is 120 meters from the US Consulate, so that's a plus.

If she's worried about a shot record for future use, she can pay an additional fee (20 to 100 rmb) and have another international shot record (yellow book) created that is HERS to use, to keep, for whatever she wants.

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !
