Hi all,

Hoping someone can help us.

I moved to usa in Dec 2013 and got married the same month.

My husband is filing his taxes and we are wondering how we file mine with his?

I worked in London until Dec 2013. What do we submit and how do we file jointly? Not sure what docs we need or how we go about this...Im currently in the AOS process.

Any advice appreciated.

You would get what ever proof you have from your employment and claim foreign earned income. You would file Married filing Joint. Consult with a tax pro or CPA they will help you file it.

Thank you, I have my SSN.

I have Oct-Dec pay stubs too. I had been employed with that company from July 2012-Dec 2013.

Would a p-45 or p-60 suffice?

The IRS does not require you submit any documentation of your foreign income with the tax return. Because your UK tax year is different, calculate your earnings from Jan 1-Dec 1 and convert it to US dollars as a start. It is all self reported, but keep a record in your files of how you came up with your earnings and the conversion rate you used.

A couple quesitons, if you can help:

1. Do I file as a non resident? I don't yet have my green card.

2. How would my foreign income be taxed? As I already paid taxes in the UK last year?

We really don't a want to pay more money in taxes than needed...

Look at the IRS form 2555. It lets you exclude foreign income from your tax return as long as it is less than a certain amount. So you would state it but it wouldn't make a difference on what you get back
