Hey!

March, 2013, I was able to enter the US via my K1 Visa

I got Married in May, 2013, and started my Adjustment of Status that same month. I filed an I-485 and payed it along with the Bio-metrics fee. At this point my Bio-metrics are done and over with and I am at a halt in progress since then. The Bio-Metrics was done in October.

I recently applied my I-131 in order to leave the US by April. I sent the application on February 15th, 2014. As of yet, I have no update and that's expected since I sent it very recently.

I don't plan on staying in Mexico any more than 3 months.

So here is my set of questions for you...

Assuming I get approved, what is to come next? Will I just get my permission to leave in the mail and that's it?

What reasons are there for anyone having their application denied? Aside for missing info.

If I do get approved, but it hasn't been by April, would there be any reason why I couldn't just leave the US and have my husband receive the permission sheet and give it to me while I'm coming over again? (I live in San Diego, CA and I cross on foot from Tijuana, BC)

Thank you very much for your time!

If you depart the US before your AP is approved then your AoS is automatically invalidated, and your I-485 will be denied.

You could have filed for an EAD (using an I-765) and for AP (an I-131) concurrently with your I-485, and it's usually recommended that you do so, since there is no charge for either and they can be renewed as many times as needed before your I-485 is adjudicated.

AP and EADs based upon a pending I-485 are usually granted within 90 days of application, so you will probably hear something towards the end of April or beginning of May.
