I called USCIS customer service and I got to speak to either an Immigration Officer or a Customer service representative (I think she gave me her ID # or something, therefore I dont know whether she was one of each) and asked me 2 questions, which of one i answered yes. I believe one of the questions was 'do you have a immigrant status?' and the other one about a citizenship certificate which i heard right and i said no. Now the reason for calling was because I haven't received my biometrics appt for my i485 and I wanted to ask her about that. What questions do these people usually ask you before helping you? I am afraid that I lied (not intentionally) for saying that I had a immigrant status. I know this topic it's very very stupid but I always want to make sure things go right.

Thanks for your time.

Don't worry the people that answer the phone are useless. There job is to keep people off the USCIS's back so they wont go to their congressmen.

I am sure they wont punish you because you misunderstood the question.

If you called the 1800 number more than likely you got someone who doesn't have a damn clue about anything except what they have on a little script in front of them, so I wouldn't worry too much. You could always call back and try again, see what happens if you give a different answer. I doubt they remember who calls, if they did I bet I wouldn't be allowed to call since I chewed out the person I was talking to once :P

Thanks for your time.

The customer service line is often referred to at the "Mis-Information" Line because they rarely get anything right! Most of the people that answer the phone are just sub-contractors employed by the USCIS to man the phones - they rarely know anything about immigration!

I see from your signature that you have an appointment on the 9th - I would ask the question regarding your biometrics then, if you haven't received an appointment for them by that time.

Our journey started in 2001 and it's still not over. It's been a rollercoaster ride all the way! Let me off - I wanna be sick!

Thanks everyone

Yep, my appt is on the 9th (next Tues) and thats exactly why I called (biometrics). she said biometrics appt usually take 30 days from the date they received it. since they received them on Nov. 10, they should've sent me the biometrics by dec 10 (not counting holidays & weekends) but she said that i should receive them by jan 10. but i also posted another topic about biometrics and someone replied that they might do them right there before or after.

happy new year!
