I'm the beneficiary and was born in Venezuela. However, I am a permanent resident of Argentina and am applying for the K1 visa through the Argentine embassy in Buenos Aires.

My birth certificate and Venezuelan police certificate were issued in Venezuela. Do these documents need to be legalized by the US Embassy in Caracas in order for the US Embassy in Buenos Aires to recognize them?

I had my police certificate legalized by the Venezuelan Minister of Foreign Affairs, but am wondering if this needs to be legalized by the US Embassy in Caracas in order for it to be recognized in other US Embassies.

I'm guessing you meant "I am applying for the K1 visa through the US embassy in Buenos Aires."

If so, There's no need to take them to the US Embassy in Caracas. They won't legalize anything for you. If your birth and Police certificates have the "Apostille" on them, They are already legalized to be used outside Venezuela. Only Venezuelan institutions can legalize your documents, The US Embassy will only keep copies of these documents for their records. One thing you need to do though is have them translated into English, then make plenty of copies for you to keep and one for the Embassy. Keep the original and the extra copies, you will need them later on.

Good luck. good.gif

Yeah thats right. Sorry. I'm applying for the K1 Visa through the US embassy in Buenos Aires. I actually contacted the US embassy in Buenos Aires about these little concerns I had and they said that those docs don't need to be sent to the US embassy in Caracas, just legalized by the Vzlan Foreign Affairs.

As for the translations, they accept docs in both english and spanish for the interview; however, they need to be translated for the adjustment of status once I'm in the US.

Thank you so much for your help GJen. I appreciate it!

Saludos!

No hay problema Paisano :) I did forget they accept documents in Spanish, but yes, you will need them translated into English once you are in the US. I remember I did it in Venezuela because it was cheaper paying in Bolivares than in dollars in the United States. Good Luck. Let me know if you have any other questions.
