I am a student and have never filed taxes. My mom is willing to sponsor my wife. She files taxes jointly with my father, who really cannot get involved directly in this because he has a high security clearence. Whenever we have visited my parents, he has had to put in a request with the government so that a foreigener can stay at his house. I live at the same house with my parents.

Is there any way to save my dad the trouble of getting involved?

Your mother can sign the I-864 and then include a W2 with the tax transcript to show what her own income is. Like Pushbrk suggested int he other thread is to have an I-864a also done to supplement if required at interview.

Gotcha. So than on my i-864 my household size will be 2 (I don't count either of my parents because income isn't being combined)? I am guessing that on my mom's, it will be two (her and my dad) as well as I am not legally considered a dependant at this point

Even if we are living in the same house, I am not necessarily considered a member of her household?

Yours will be two - you and beneficiary

Mother's will be three - her, your dad, and beneficiary

If they do not claim you as a dependent on their taxes and you are not all combining income, no they do not include you on their household count.

Thanks. For "my total income...as reported on my Federal Tax returns for the most recent 3 years"

What should my mom put? HER individual income isn't listed on her tax return; it's listed on her W-2s (but it's not asking me for what her W-2s listed).

Called NVC about this very question. Where it asks for total income from most recent 3 years, write the line from her tax transcript that says "total income" (If you're submitting tax returns this is line 22 on the 1040.) I asked very specifically if this is the correct thing to do, given that this number is a combination of sponsor and sponsor spouse income (because of joint filing). NVC said yes, this is the way to do it. Just make sure on the previous question about sponsor current yearly income, only put your mom's. I didn't ask about this specifically, but I think it would be a good idea to include your mom's W-2 just to be extra clear, even though the from says this is not needed if you're using a transcript. Just remember, the number of your mom's gross income on her W-2's will not go on the I-864, but I'd imagine they'd expect the number you write in "current individual yearly income" to be somewhat close to what her previous year's W-2. You might also throw in a letter of employment for your mom to support her "current individual yearly income" number.

Awesome! And what about annual household income? Part 6.10? Joint income or mom's income? Almost 100% certain it's mom's income as it is tellng me to add up the lines of the people whose income I want to combine.

you are correct according to my understanding. even if your dad has income that will be reported come next year's tax season, it's not relevant to this form because your mom already meets the income requirement, and your dad isn't filling out an i-864a. 6.10 will be the same number as question 5 (current individual annual income).
