I-134 affidavit of support question

Quick question... For the I-134 affidavit of support, where it asks, "I derive an annual income of $...." What should I put down?

Is it the total income I have thru wages

OR

Total income thru wages, minus money that goes into my retirement fund (403b)

Gross income as stated on your W-2. Then the embassy wants a copy of your most recent tax return and W-2, if you income at least meets the poverty guidelines that is all that is required.

I have two jobs. My main job alone is more than enough to meet the poverty guideline. The second job I have will def not meet the guideline.

Do I list both incomes combined or just the gross income of my main job?

You combine both incomes, as well as any interest / dividends / etc.

Did you file a 1040? There is no line for "gross income" on a 1040. Use your "total income" from line 22.

Due to the fact that I put money (pre-tax through my main work) into my retirement account, the amount for line 22 is less than my gross income for my main job. i also think my other job had already been factored into that. So, the (combined) amount on line 22 is still less than my gross income from my main job.

Now, which amount should I put? Still the amount on line 22?

If they are not self-employed, why would they list their income from their past tax return? Line 22 of the 1040 is for self-employed. If you are an employee, then you use your current income which would be how much you make an hour times how many hours a week you work, then multiply that weekly amount by 52 weeks in a year to get your current annual income amount. You provide a letter from your employer(s) and or most recent pay stubs to prove that current income amount.

Do that for both jobs and combine the current income amounts together. Provide proof of current income from both jobs.

Take the gross income (box # 1 I believe) from both W-2, total them... use that number.
