My husband and I are filing for Adjustment of Status and currently filling out all the required forms. On his K1 Visa in his passport is a 9 digit number beginning with the letter A. Is this his alien registration number?

We can't seem to find a clear answer on google anywhere. A lot of forums say we can find it on the NOA2, but it isn't on there. Even the NOA1 letter I received has a box for his alien number, but it's blank. It's not on his I-94 either. :/

Thanks for your patience!

For us it was only on the NOA2 above the beneficiary's name. For some from the UK it has been reported to have been written on the passport. The A# is typically in the format of XXX-XXX-XXX to distinguish it from a SSN which is in the form of YYY-YY-YYYY. The A# on the visa will be hand written. If the 9 digit number is printed on the visa then that would be some other number,

Good luck,

Dave

lol two contradicting answers. He has nothing hand written on his visa, and we do not have it on our NOA2. I want to assume the AXXXXXXXXX in his passport is the alien number, but I just didn't want to get it wrong

Thanks for your help though guys

If it is not listed on the NOA2 from the I-129F, then use the one from your visa. It not being listed on the NOA2 is rare. It happened in our case too. Some consulates print the visa with the A# on it, and some do not. Ours did not even have it there. So, use it from the visa. It starts with A and has 9 digits. Sounds like an A# to me.

Yeah it's so weird! I googled NOA2 images and everyone's looks so different to ours! Most I have seen have a huge United States banner at the top of the page, but ours just looks like a plain old letter. I'm sure the worst that could happen is they contact us regarding the number, but it begins with A and has nine digits on his visa so it must be correct.

Hello, Id like to chime in. For help please. I'm in the same boat. I'm doing change of status forms for a K1. I looked on the I 129F and The A number is only 8 digits. Not 9. And the passport does not have a A number anywhere. Is this ok or is it susposed to be 9 digits.

Edit. FYI I found the same A number on the NOA 2. Printed above applicants name. However its 9 digits and the I 29F is 8 digits. The numbers are the same . EXCEPT they left a 0 out on the I129F. At the beginning of the number.

You could always call the USCIS and speak to a tier 2 IO that has access to your case info. Let them know your A# was not on your NOA2 and you would like verification that the A# on your K-1 visa is your correct # because you need it to file for AOS. If London prints the A# on the K-1 visa though, you can probably safely just use it.
