On I-130 (bring mother to U.S) required documents

Hi! Got a question on I-130 form. It's for my wife to apply for her mother to come to U.S. I have read that the required documents being birth certificate and naturalization certification.

Just curious, how come the immigration office doesn't require forms like i-864 Affidavit of Support? Don't they want to know if there are enough income/assets to support the new family member? Or is it something that they may ask you to submit later?. I am little bit concerned because my wife is currently a student without any income, so not sure if they will check her income status (but I guess that they can look up w-2 with my jointed income? Or should I submit that anyway?)

Thanks.

Yes, they will ask for that later... At the NVC stage. USCIS is only evaluating your petition to determine your eligibility to qualify for the visa: ie that your wife is a citizen, that her mother is really her mother etc, and that she qualifies to be allowed to immigrate. (No crimes, overstays etc)

Once they determine that, your file is sent to the NVC, where you will be asked to send sponsorship information.

Is your timeline updated?

Oath Ceremony Dec 14th, 2018 I am finally a citizen and done with USCIS for good!
