I need some information.

I am in the process of removing the conditions on residency. I have a one-year extension letter because my green card expired. The one-year extension letter is also about to expire. What is my next step? Do I need to call USCIS? Is it normal to take a year or longer to remove the conditions on residency? Since I filled my petition almost a year ago I have not heard from USCIS except the one-year extension letter.

There is also one other problem that I am confused about. I lost my wallet which had my expired green card. Do I need to notify immigration? I still have the one year extension letter and I am not sure they can replace the one that was lost/stolen since it was already expired. I was just not sure I may need it in the future to show that I did have one.

Anyone with a similar experience or has any information I will be grateful for some advice. Thank you!

i would call USCIS. I think if you lose your green card you will need to notify them, you need a copy of that plus the extension letter to prove your technically still on legal or valid status.

I m ay be mistaken but the I751 time frame is 180 daysand if you crossed that time frame you should contact them to find out why its taking this long.

hope this helps.

You can also file a application to replace your green card. See link below:

I agree with hpereira you should contact USCIS immediately.

Thank you both for the advice. Good news is that my wallet and green card was found so I do not need to worry about that. I will still contact USCIS because my one year extension letter is about to expire and I want to know what is taking so long with my case.

Thanks again! smile.png

If your 1 year extension is almost going to expire, that means you are eligible to apply for citizenship. (Assuming you filed the ROC with your spouse and you are still married to that same spouse). The citizenship application will FORCE them to adjudicate your ROC. So, apply for citizenship if you can! :)

Again, apply for citizenship 3 years minus 90 days if you are sill married to the spouse you filed the ROC with. It's the fastest way to get the ball rolling. Don't bother calling USCIS if you are eligible. Good luck! :)

Update:

I will explain my situation fully. While my 2 year green card was about to expire, within the 90 days window, I applied to have the conditions of residency removed. I recieved a one-year extension letter in Feburary 2013. I then recieved my biometric appointment letter in March 2013. Since March 2013 I have not heard anything from USCIS and the website has no new information. I am still married to my wife who is the petitioner.

I called USCIS a couple of days after posting this question. I spoke with someone who said I need to schedule an appointment to get an I-155 stamp since my one-year extension is about to expire. I then asked why my case was taking so long and he said he was going to escalate to see why my case is taking so long. He then transferred me to someone higher up, but they had me on hold so long and I had to go to work so I hung up. I am planning on calling back on my day off.

My problem and the reason I am in a hurry is because my mom had a stroke and I want to see her. My mom is in my home country, Pakistan. Even if I can travel with the I-155 stamp, I am afraid that while in Pakistan I will recieve an appoint for biometric fingerprints (since they expire every year) and/or an appointment for an interview. I do not want to spend a lot of money traveling to Pakistan and only get to see my mom for a few days or a week and then have to come back to the US. I want to stay a minimum of 3 weeks and a maximum of 4 weeks with my mom in Pakistan. I want to apply for citizenship, but I will be in the same condition I am in now. I will be waiting for an appoint for an interview. I feel like I am in the middle of nowhere and I do not know what to do. My family in Pakistan does not understand this and they think I am just making excuses not to come back to PK. I haven't seen my mom in 3 years and I miss her so much and I am so worried and stressed. I just wish USCIS would hurry up so I can see her before anything bad happens.

Thanks to all with suggestions! I appreciate it.
