I don't know if you already sent in your application, but to answer your question, yes you can change your name. If you did not request it on your application, you can do so at the interview.

I am preparing my N-400 application. I will send it in a month. Any tips are greatly appreciated! I have two words in my last name. If I get approved for naturalization, can I remove the second word of my last name in my Naturalization certificate? Thanks in advance.

Wow, that was pretty fast. Yay!!!

Congrats DanTes! :dancing:

I received my US passport today exactly 2 weeks after applying at the Post Office (paid for expedited service and overnight delivery) :dance: So, from my experience, applying for a passport at the Post Office isn't that bad at all. Mine was 2 weeks door to door. My naturalization certificate should also be returned in the next few days via mail.

I sure hope they don't wrinkle or put a bunch of extra folds on mine. I will be very upset, but if they do, just like you, I will not spend an extra $400 for a new one.

On a different note. I have not signed mine yet, I'm not sure if I should sign a full signature like it says to do (first middle last) or match the picture (first last). :bonk:

Ugh! - I hope they don't do that with mine! But even if they do, I'm not going to spend $400 for a new one, that's for sure :P

I will be pretty upset too, though, if something like that happens. Hope not, but we shall see...

Finally received my interview letter for 10/21/14 at 7.50AM.

I have a question about the civics test.

Where answers have multiple answers i.e. Q2, Q12 etc, yet it does not specify name one, two etc. Do you need to know all the answers or just one of them? I am sure I am over thinking this but was hoping for some clarification, thank you.

Also are the oath ceremonies set up automatically for you or do you have to set it up? At what point do you surrender your residency card and have to get a US passport?

I became a US citizen this morning. The ceremony was surprisingly emotional, I was not expecting it to be so.

My ceremony was at the US National Archives in Washington DC. I was naturalized next to the original constitution and declaration of independence along with 34 other people. Good luck everyone!!!

I had my interview today at the Baltimore field office - I passed :) The oath ceremonies for today were full so I have to wait until next week. Oath will be next Wednesday, September 24

I can't remember much of the interview.

Questions asked were:

Who becomes president if the president can't?

What is 1 right under the first amendment?

Name a part of the amendment that states who can vote

Why did the first colonials come to America? This one stumped me, he gave me clues until I got it -- religious freedom

I can't remember the other 2 questions.

Finally received my interview letter for 10/21/14 at 7.50AM.

I have a question about the civics test.

Where answers have multiple answers i.e. Q2, Q12 etc, yet it does not specify name one, two etc. Do you need to know all the answers or just one of them? I am sure I am over thinking this but was hoping for some clarification, thank you.

Also are the oath ceremonies set up automatically for you or do you have to set it up? At what point do you surrender your residency card and have to get a US passport?

I asked the same question and was told from someone who had the interview that questions with multiple answers require only one of those given. So even though the judiciary branch revises the law, resolves issues, explains the law, and decides if a law goes against the constitution, I was told you only need to give one answer. There is a post following yours in which the VJer stated that he or she did not remember the answer to why did the first colonists came to the US and she receives hints until she remembered one of the answers - religious freedom. Other answers given were freedom, to avoid persecution (imprisonment) etc. but she only needed to give one answer. I am like you - extremely detail oriented - we tend to analyze and over-think things. One thing for sure is that we learn a lot that way :D. All the best in your interview. Mine is next Wednesday. One tip that I learned from a VJer was to download the CD and listen to the questions. I did that as soon as I got my interview and I listen to it almost everyday. Again, all the best and congrats as you move closer to becoming a citizen of the USA

02/03/2009 - Received email RFE. What did I not send now, whew!
02/09/2009 - Received mails for initial evidence and Biometric appointment (02/19/2009); mailed evidence
02/19/2009 - biometrics done - in a out in 45 minutes
03/14/2009 - Receive NOA2 dated 03/10/2009. AOS interview April 29, 2009
03/18/2009 - Touched. EAD Card production ordered
03/25/2009 - Touched. EAD approval sent
03/27/2009 - EAD card received in the mail; applied for SS# immediately (office is across the street from my home)
04/02/2009 - Received SS# in the mail
04/29/2009 - Interviewed. I- 130 approved, I-485 pending IO's review
05/05/2009 - Received NOA2. Welcome letter for Permanent Residency. I-130 and I-485 approved 04/30/2009
05/08/2009 - Touched. I-485 approval letter sent
05/11/2009 - GC received in the mail. Expires 2019
05/11/2009 - Applied to remove restrictions on my SS Card
05/18/2009 - Received unrestricted SS card
10/13/2009 - My darling husband of 2 yrs 5 months 3 weeks 3 days passed away :(
