First of all...hi guys!

Secondly, our petition to apply for the visa thing was approved in August. I cant actually remember the whole date. Im wondering how long we have after that to apply for the actual visa, to make the interview and whatever. Im worried because weve been waiting for a couple of forms now for going on 6 f*cking months, and Im afraid theres a time limit on how long we have to apply for the actual visa. Anyone have any experiance dealing with this?

Your approved petition would have been sent to the national visa center and then to your consulate for interview scheduling. You need to first contact the NVC via email or phone to ask when the petition was forwarded and then contact your consulate regarding the status.

Has your USC fiance(e) received notice that it passed through NVC yet? Has any attempt been made to locate the case file?

The approval of the petition is only valid for 4 months without it being extended (not necessarily automatic).

YMMV

Yes.... if it's been 6 months, I wouldn't delay in beginning to figure out where your application is...

You'll be going through London. The phone number is a bit steep. I'd email them.

Approved in August - I would have been bugging them about it WAY before now!

Thanks to Jen and Ron/Sharon for the NVC number. Dunno why I couldn't find it! *DUH*

I'd start there, then if they confirm it was sent to the consulate, email London.

I think I have the dayum thing memorized!!

Im calling the number, but it keeps telling me all the operators are busy, and basically hanging up me. Im starting to get really scared now. The problem is this police check we have been waiting on for ages now. 6 months actually. Im starting to get scared, I dont know what Ill do if I have to go through all this again. Its been 9 months now. This isnt fair at all.

Wait until later in the day to call and send an email with your case number in the subject line. If you know you were stuck in security checks, at least you know where you petition is . . . better than knowing nothing at all. There is no reason you would have to go through it all again - the consulate can extend the petition validity.

Well yes. I mean, ok. After three months, we re-applied for the stupid security check thing again. After another two and a half months, Alan (fiance) called and asked what the hold up was. Apparently its something a lot of people have been going through, and we were told to apply for a differant security check, although that was three weeks or so ago, and that one was only supposed to take 2 weeks. We havnt called to make the appointment because we were waiting for that paper and also his new passport, which again, was only supposed to have taken a month and its now been like 3, and we cant actually send in all that paperwork without his new passport number and the police forms. Im pretty sure now were going to have to reapply, and Im really devestated. I dont know what to do at this point. I cant get through to anyone, and it seems like Alan and I can keep reaching dead ends at every turn, you know?
