Hello,

My wife and I have been married a little over two years. She is from the Philippines and is currently a permanent resident in Canada. I am a U.S. citizen, living and working in the United States, and am with my wife on weekends. We met, dated, and married in Canada.

Was wondering what we can expect, as we are just starting filling out the paper work for her entrance into the U.S.

She has not been to the U.S. yet, and would not be coming in until we have her visa.

We are beginning with filling out the I-130. Are there better states or offices for me to begin filing our papers for her? Any gotchas we should be aware of?

If you have any advice for us, please let us know. I am also interested in how long we should expect it to take. I'm hoping it wouldn't be even a year, but we've heard it could be years. That has us nervous.

Thanks.

Check out the IR1 guide here:

http://www.visajourney.com/content/i130guide1

it gives you an overview.

You'll want to study that, and look into the forum links at the top for guides, wikis, etc. It takes a while to wrap your head around the process, but the more you study on your own to get a broad idea (then ask here for specifics on areas of confusion) the more empowered you'll be throughout the process.

And yes, about a year or so for processing these days.

There's only one address for you to submit the petition to,

so I not understand a piece of your question.

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !
Ya know, you can find the answer to your question with the advanced search tool, when using a PC? Ditch the handphone, come back later on a PC, and try again.
