Depends on the form you used. For 1040, look at line 22. From the I-864 instructions:

For purposes of this affidavit, the line for gross (total) income on IRS Forms 1040 and 1040A will be considered when determining income. For persons filing IRS Form 1040 EZ, the line for adjusted gross income will be considered.

No more of that Statue of Liberty, "We welcome your poor", nonsense. Being self employed, had to provide a financial statement. Guess the USCIS wanted to know if I had enough cash to pay their fees. Don't forget that I-864A form as well, lets you enter into a marriage contract on a more equal basis.

Seen too many members get hung on this board with that I-864.
