Hello all, final stage of the long process, and yet more problems.

The Embassy requires additional information from me, including my passport. I phoned DX couriers the company the embassy told me to use with no joy there! They sent me to another company in which they told me they don’t take passports to the embassy. I have searched the net for answers with no luck. No one seems to have an answer. Could anyone please help me?

Thank you Jamie

Why have you moved this topic? i have looked on the forum, and every topic you have moved has 0 views and 0 replies?

To answer the question... have you checked this page on the DX Secure site?

Thankyou for your reply, i spoke to 5 diffrent people at DX and they tell me they do not collect U.K passports. I just dont know where or to whom i turn, i supose this isnt anything new with this entire process but being so close to the finish line makes it just that little bit more annoying!!

Cheers anyway, Jamie

Ah, so it is. Hmm. I'm not sure what to suggest then - recently it seems that both DX and the Embassy just point fingers at each other when something goes wrong. As a last resort, try using the contact form on the Embassy site: http://london.usembassy.gov/visa_contact_information.html - You can try ringing, or click the link at the bottom there. Unfortunately the Embassy won't take RM Special Delivery else I'd suggest that. I'll see if I can get hold of a member here who had to send something in after her interview and see what she says.

Edit: I have another potential solution. Here's a list of the couriers in the UK: https://ais.usvisa-info.com/en-gb/information/courier_dropboxes

Find your closest one, and try ringing them directly if you haven't already. What does it tell you to do on your 221(g) (the blue letter)? What number does it tell you to call?

Hello, thanks again! um my letter just said to ring DX couriers, this is the company that is returning my passport after i find a way of sending it to the embassy. I think i will give a drop off depot a call tomorrow to see what they say. And yes you are differently correct about finger pointing!

I'll keep looking......

Cheers

Just a reminder here . . .

Organizers are volunteers who are part of the administration team. Their responsibility is to identify posts or comments that are misplaced or poorly placed, and then relocate them to a forum where the 'fit' is better.

While your comment could have remained in the K-1 forum as you are posting about a problem you are having in trying to complete the K-1 process, the problem you are having is not so much related to the K-1 process but to a specific issue with the US Consulate in the UK and their use - or lack of use - of couriers. Your question was seen as being more country specific than process specific, and it would be most likely for you to get the information you need from someone else who is familiar with that Consulate. The Organizer involved is aware that many of our more experienced UK members - the ones most likely to have a response to your question - have generally moved on from the K-1 forum to the next part of their process. Many of them, however, do read and post in the UK regional forum and by moving your question here, he was hoping to provide you with access to a greater, more knowledgeable audience than you would have had available in the K-1 forum.

That being said, the post could have been left in the K-1 forum but the Organizer was trying to do you a favour.

This is what I found out.----

I looked up on my phone list, and have 3 numbers for DX.

Courier 0870 950 1760. tel:01604 496 798

Courier collection tel:0871 562 6666

So I just now rang up the collection one. Got the same lady I spoke to last August when the courier system changed...she sounds Indian.

Go to the nearest depot with your documents. Take the barcodes(?) you get from the embassy website. I think it must be the confirmation that you have already paid at www.usvisa-info.com. They will deliver to the embassy at no extra charge. When your visa is issued, it will go back to the depot or to your home if you paid the equivalent of 30 American dollars. If you don't know your depot, call her at 0871 562 6666 and tell her your post code.

She asked if I was calling from London. "No, I am in Texas" :P That surprised her. She wasn't even aware that people pay in advance of the interview now. I explained a bit of how it works and that if a visa can't be issued, papers are to be couriered back but she tells people they don't pick up at homes since August 1. Maybe she will be able to help a little more in the future after our conversation.

You're amazing Nich-Nick! The fact that you took it upon yourself to call up the UK and find out all this is terrific. You are truly a VJ treasure.

I was curious about this little glitch nobody at the embassy had figured out. Nor had the former collection number lady. Wondering if the depot even knows.

Not hard at all. We have unlimited calls. A UK Vonage phone is just like picking up a handset in the UK and dialing. It is a Bedford number because when my husband chose, he thought 1234 xxx xxx was cool. I don't even remember the number but all our UK people know it for calling us free. There have been a couple of 3am misdialed calls to a pet groomer in Bedford. :(

You should ring the collection number if you don't know which depot is closest to you. Go directly to that depot with your receipts (and printed barcodes if there are any) from the payment site. Say you were told by the Collections line that you had to do this because they no longer collected from home addresses.

What Wheatley said. After the collection lady and I talked we kinda sorted out things. She said get the barcodes off the embassy website. I said Whoa! I know the embassy website in detail and there are no barcodes. So then she got out something and started reading www.us.... And I typed it in the iPad. Realized it was the paying site. I told her that wasn't the embassy website, but an automated payment site. I have never paid online or seen your confirmations so I didn't know if there were barcodes or not. But I guessed as long as you have a confirmation for paying, that is what was needed. She was surprised that payment is made before ever going to the embassy.

I am still puzzled why you have encountered this problem. I'm certain others have had to send things to the embassy after the Interview. It's been 5 months since the change with DX. Why are you the first we have heard getting the run around? Anyway, it sounds like a plan. Hope it works.
