Ok my fiance and i have decided we want to get married in her country the Philippines and all we want is a civil wedding with a big reception. I know i need to get an affidavit. I have read all their websites and all their instructions but she is nervous about what if they deny me because they don't like me. As in they don't give me the legal capacity to marry. I had advised her it is only for unlawful reasons. But she is scared because it will be first time we met in person. I mean we have talked on skype and phone for 9 months now so i am not really that worried about it because ill print off all our stuff. to bring proof we are a legit couple.

But i will be there from April 3rd till April 30th is that a long enough time to get all that i need to have a civil wedding there? all my paperwork and all my required doc?

I am kinda confused.. But have you married before and got a divorce? If so, you're going to need the divorce decree along with you when you visit in order to get a "Legal Capacity to Marry" from the US Embassy. In order to get that, first, you need to make an online appointment http://manila.usembassy.gov/marriage.html

From there, you will need to get a Marriage License from the Local Civil Registry where you plan to marry. Before you get the license to marry, they will require both of you to attend a counseling on a specific date then you can schedule your marriage ( this is for the civil wedding because church wedding is totally different here..LOL) You may need a birth certificate with you. they only require the photocopy. When my husband and I got married, the Civil Registry asked for his birth certificate which we had... it's better to have everything and prepared especially when you are travelling here... They ask a lot of documents eve sometimes, it's just doesn't make sense anymore.. One thing you need to remember.. Before you leave the country, make an online appointment to avoid long delays with your plans... hope this help

That should be enough time. I suggest first thing u do as soon as u arrive is go to the us embassy or us consulate and get the legal cpacity. Then the next day go to her local civil registrar and apply for marriage license.. It will take about 10 days (or more) before u receive ur marriage license..then u can get married. Of course, prior to going to the phils, u should have all necessary documents ready. Ask ur fiancee to also inquire and prepare the requirements for the marriage license, and for the civil wedding.

As for the legal capacity, idk how it is in the us embassy in manila, but hubby and i did it in cebu coz that was his port of entry and it was pretty easy, no appointment needed, and didnt even take us an hour to get the document. We passed the requirements, paid, and fill out the forms, then returned it and waited for his name to be called. After a few minutes, we were told to go to a room where an american guy was waiting for us, he asked us "so you guys wanna get married?" and we said yes, then he told hubby to raise his hand and make an oath. Then he signed the legal capacity and gave it to hubby and we were good to go. :)

Good luck to u guys! :)

Hi,i just married in phil 3 weeks ago and this is how i did it first get a hotel close to the embassy so the next day after you land you can walk there but first do an online appointment with them so when you go to the embassy you have like an 2 hr wait cuz they only have like 2 windows open for that but in the mean time have your girl start preparing everything there for the wedding and do yourself a favor give her extra money cuz its very easy to miscalculate costs like i did from here,, and just enjoy yourselfs like we did,, the best of luck
