Is it too early to start calling the NVC?

Our file was sent to NVC on 12-17-13.so we are just about at 3 weeks. I know there is no harm in calling too early, but is 3 weeks too early for the call to be productive? I sent email one week ago, and i hear the turnaround time on that is 2 weeks.

If it takes another week or two that is OK. I just dont want to be sitting on my hands while things are happening with our file.

The holidays have to slow things down a little bit. After all, how many of us work hard at our jobs over the holidays?

So what it the consenus? Call or sit on it for another week?

Called DOS and was very quick. They said it was not received and won't be for about 4 weeks at moment so I'm going to call again next Friday as that's the 4 week mark for us.

I called yesterday and today and finally got a case number but were unable to give me any firm details on when the application would be sent to the consulate. I plan to call every day

It's not to early , I called every day , that 603 number will not help and you will be on hold forever call 202 485 7600.

You can call as early as you want to, it doesn't matter. I would even recommend to call as early as you can so you get your case number sooner. How early? You can call a few days to a week after your petition is approved, up to you. When you call, if they don't have your case number yet, just hang up and call the next day. Just call every day, until you have your case number.

Exactly! Your case number is only important to YOU...so you get on it and bug them every day about it. They could care less if you have your case number or not.

I think the USCIS website gets updated when the petition goes from 'approved' to 'shipped'. I'm checking it every morning so I'll let you know if there is any update.

Well it is all moot for me. Got a snail mail letter on 1/6/14 that it was sent to Manila on 12/31/13. The next day, 1/7/14, got an answer to my email telling me the same thing.

These are bureacrats. You are not going to speed them up by calling. The only thing you really have to gain, besides peace of mind, is if you get useful info like your conulate number. But things won't go any faster.

They don't always chance ya status on the USCIS site to let ya know if it's been shipped or not. There are other filers around me who was approved in April and September and there's still just says it's been approved and nothing about being shipped.

I called the DOS on +12024857600. Then pushed 1 and then 0 and got through to a visa specialist.
