WASHINGTON We have reached a new level of political absurdity when the right is mad at the pope and the left wants to anoint his head with oil.

Everyone seems to have his own special version of Pope Francis. Liberals have declared him a crusader for social justice, especially regarding his comments about global inequality. Conservatives fear he just might be a commie. ...

Everyone go line up for the pope. He's going to tell you how much money is allowed per person. No pushing, everyone has to wait their turn.

Having money means you don't have to use the promise of sex, or the threat of violence, to get what you want.

Don't forget the power of persuasion. Many times this can be directly related to the two you mentioned but every so often you can use Religion, Patriotism, Tradition, or even a straight out mind #### to have your will done. Money is the easiest though. Unless you're hot or big. I'm neither.

I am not a Catholic either. I'm not a particularly religious person at all. But I find it refreshing that there is now a head of the Catholic church that actually wants to talk about and live by Christian values.

The problem is would-be-do-gooders and the like (not a put down, I don't have a word for them) solution to income inequity will is that it will just make everybody extremely poor. So instead of 50% of the world in extreme poverty we can have 99% Show me how we can make the vast majority of the population at least lower middle class without collapsing economies to a point where we are all scrambling to find food.

I have a feeling that type of solution will require things like population control, lotteries for who can have children, the removal of meat from the human diet, severe restriction in property rights, etc, etc.

On a different note.. I do sometimes wonder why things are the way they are. When I am in my wifes home city - A city near the equator with a high elevation. It has spring like weather every single day of the year.. the humidity is low, the temp never gets above 85 and never below 65. Virtually nobody has (or needs) heaters, air conditioners, or insulation, or hot water. They get rain, but its a warm pleasant rain... Now our home here: foot thick insulation, double pane windows, heavy duty AC and Furnace.. This week my garbage froze inside my cart to the point that the robot arm on the truck could not bang it out after a full 30 seconds (they left a note: sorry its frozen). Think of the extra energy and infrastructure that is required to operate and exist here... How have they not exploited that advantage and left us in the dust?

Tropical disease has been a huge factor in limiting life expectancy in the tropics. Just one factor, out of many.
