Just a quick question. I became a US citizen when my daughter was 18+ so she is now applying on her own after 5 yrs of permanent residency.

Is there anyone in the forum who had a similar situation and what were you asked at your interview, if anything. She'll obviously explain that yes, her mom is a US citizen but became one when she was over 18 - that should suffice I assume.

We will be doing this soon with the older two for the same reason. I never thought about what they would ask, I figured it would be just like when we did ours.

I was just wondering what she should say or if they'd even ask since there is a question asking if either of your parents are US citizens...so we of course said yes.

I'll let you know what they say

Don't recall my stepdaughter even mentioning the status of her mother during her short less than ten minute interview. And what difference would that make to her if her mom was a US citizen or not. She was a green card holder for five years and was eligible for application.

Tried to think of what evidence she could bring in, all I think of was four years of tax and her grade transcripts her IO didn't even want to see. Never was married nor divorced, a female for selective service. Her N-400 was loaded with N/A's.

What I didn't think about was a minor 50 fine for a traffic violation, cop in town didn't think she stopped at a stop sign long enough when she was 17 years. Her IO wanted proof that fine was paid, that caused a minor delay.

Good to know Umka36 and NIckD. My daughter has a clean record with regard to driving and the law and she's only filed taxes once herself, the rest of the time she was claimed under us. We'll have extra transcripts available.

I predict a smooth ride, now if I can only get her to study for the test at least 10 minutes before!

Ha, was the same thing with my stepdaughter, of all times, her interview was scheduled right during her midterms at college. She got permission from her professors to postpone her tests for the day after.

To help her out, copied and pasted those 100 questions, typed in the names peculiar to our state and for those multiple answers, selected the easiest ones. And printed those out, two sheets.

First time she looked at it was on the trip over, studied it, took a two hour nap, then read over it once again while waiting for her interview. You always have to wait for your interview, never on time. Answered the first six questions instantly, and like everything she learned in college, forgot about it the next day.

Actually did the same thing for my wife, working full time and taking college courses at night, but she was different, she read the questions to me, I memorized the test and would intentionally give the wrong answers so she had to correct me. As a teacher myself, learned you learn quicker by teaching than by being the student.

Actually there are two tests, first one is going over that N-400 to know all the questions and the reason why you answered each one you did.
