Technically, you only have to have met in person once within the last 2 years of the date you file the petition to send in the I-129f.

However, especially depending on the embassy, you need it to be long enough to have a lot of proof of legitimate relationship.

There's no specific time, but you must have met at least once face-to-face within the 2 years before you file the petition (using boarding passes/passport stamps etc. as evidence). If you haven't met, you can't file.

You will be expected to prove your relationship is genuine as well (photos together, chat/call logs, letters, having met his/her family etc.).

Technically, the time it takes you from meeting for the first time until you propose and fill out the forms and gather the evidence (like 30 minutes, 1 hour if you read all the instructions carefully and double-check the forms...). The requirement is that you met at least once (and it could well be the first time) in the 2 years prior to filing: it can be 1 year and 11 months, or 1 day. Obviously, the longer and the more evidence you can submit supporting your relationship, the better, especially with a difficult consulate like the Vietnam one.

I am asking for a friend and I am trying to help him petition his fiancee. He lives in U.S and he just got back from visiting his fiancée. They took pictures together and with her family and friends. He also kept all boarding passes/passport stamps and all other stuffs for evidence that they met. Does he needs call logs? He uses prepaid call card to call her. They plan to write and send letters back and forth. Will the letters be enough for evidence? Thanks!!

No. He doesn't have to have call logs. That's just one example of showing that the couple has a bonafide relationship. Letters are good. There's suggestions for other evidence in the K1 guide: http://www.visajourney.com/content/k1guide

What country is your friend's fiancé from? The level of evidence he should include varies a little - since with higher fraud embassies, it's often recommended to "front-load" the petition with a lot more evidence than might otherwise be required.

His fiancée is from Vietnam. He's going to use his cell phone to call her if he has too because it will log all his calls. He tries not to use it much because it can be costly.

He should read this thread that I noticed today... it discusses the fact that Vietnam is considered a very strict embassy: http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/467094-determining-course-of-action-k1-vs-k3/

Be carefule using calling cards. They do not establish proof of calling the intended party. I found this out the hard way. Use direct dialing at least 3 or 4 times a month. This way her phone number will show up on the records.

You can also print you skype records.

I will relate our 2 week romance!

I knew, my now wife, for a few months, and were just friends, but we got closer, and closer over time in the Philippines, and every time I visited we became closer. After a failed relationship for me, she knew I loved her all the time, and we decided to become a couple and file a K-1 visa!

We were engaged on June 12, 2013, and filed the K-1 on June 22, 2013!!! You just need very good proof!

We did great until we ran into the """SPUTUM FIASCO"" at St. Luke's.,., but we are happily married and living in the USA>

Being friends, then lovers is a great advantage!!! THEN, have excellent proof of an excellent relationship, within the last 2 years! That's it!

This having met face-to-face within 2 years prior to filing.. is it really necessary?

I ask because the last time I saw my fiancé was when I left the Philippines in June 2012. I came back to Guam because I was done with school, but we've been together for almost 7 years.

January 07, 2014 is our 7th anniversary... We met in Iloilo city 2006.

Would this still apply to us or does this only apply to the couples who have met online and such?

Established: 01/07/07

I ask because the last time I saw my fiancé was when I left the Philippines in June 2012. I came back to Guam because I was done with school, but we've been together for almost 7 years. - You can still file. Requirement is meeting in person at least once within 2 years of filing the petition. But what are you waiting for? FILE NOW?!

January 07, 2014 is our 7th anniversary... We met in Iloilo city 2006. - how long the relationship is doesn't matter, just that you met within 2 years of filing.

Would this still apply to us or does this only apply to the couples who have met online and such? - it applies to any US citizen + foreign citizen that are free to marry.
