Whoopi Goldberg has won countless awards, including an Oscar. Do you think she isn't recognized because she didn't get one for Color Purple?

Jamie Fox won for Ray

Lou Gosset for the Drill SGT in Officer and Gentleman

Wil Smith nominated for Ali

Jennifer Hudson-dream girls

Mo'Nique--Precious

Cuba Gooding-Jerry Mcguire

So unless they are winning an Oscar, they are not being recognized?

And when they DO win an Oscar and get recognized, they should be getting recognized for other things? Because racism?

Marvin, I'm having trouble following you here.

This might take a bit:

If you look at the history of black actors/actresses, the majority of them only win for playing stereotypical roles. This started with Hattie Mcdaniel, when she won for Gone with the Wind. Now, I know back then she didn't have a choice, since those were the only roles black folks could play. Then you have Sidney Poitier, who won his Oscar back in the 60's. He refused to play those type of roles, which I wish most black actors would do now. We are so much more than slaves, maids, drug dealers, crack addicts. This is why when Denzel won for Training Day, folks were happy, but it was like, he couldn't win for something positive? Same thing will Halle and Monique.

I guess my beef is I want black people to play more everyday roles, like doctors, lawyers, astronauts, and coaches that get recognized for doing those roles excellently, rather than playing roles that seem to reflect how America sees us and getting an Oscar for it.

Yeah, sorry, you've lost me on this argument. I think you're dying to see racism in a situation where there isn't any. In fact, you're creating it just to complain about it. You know I'm on your side with most things, but I just can't with this one. They get recognized for their hard work and it still isn't good enough for you because you want them recognized for other things.

White people get Oscars for playing bad people ALL. THE. TIME.

Could be, I guess I've see things a bit differently on this one. I concede on the argument.

Jamie is not going to get an award for this, although the film was great, I think.

Playing a crackhead who beats his wife, yes.
