Is it ok to submit copies of my last three tax transcripts rather than copies of my actual tax returns with W-2's for the last three years for I-864? I have all the transcripts, but I am missing several of my W-2's, so it would be much easier to send transcripts rather than track down W-2's from previous employers.

The tax transcripts are what they want. As the IRS has electronic copies of all W-2s, those amounts cannot be on your transcript if they are not real. A paper W-2 can be forged. :) We got the transcripts which is what they want and had no problems.

A tax return transcript is preferred.

The I-864 instructions cover this.

http://www.uscis.gov/sites/default/files/files/form/i-864instr.pdf

7. Item Number 14. Federal Income Tax Information.

You must provide either an IRS transcript or a photocopy from your own records of your Federal individual income
tax return for the most recent tax year. If you believe additional returns may help you to establish your ability to
maintain sufficient income, you may submit transcripts or photocopies of your Federal individual income tax returns
for the three most recent years.

If you provide a photocopy of your tax return(s), you must include a copy of each and every Form W-2 and Form 1099
that relates to your return(s). Do not include copies of these Forms if you provide an IRS transcript of your return(s)
rather than a photocopy.
