cat people please help!!

So my cat has blood in her feces tonight. How worried should I be?? Do I need to take her to the emergency vet? I tried googling it, and it basically said nothing...

What other symptoms does she have? If she's feeling pain and doing something not normal, take her to the emergency.

it could just be polyps. was it alot of blood or bloody stools? it certainly isnt normal, biut it could be something easily remedied. if it were my cat i would wait until i could see our regular vet.

How is the cat behaving? Apart from the feces... is it subdued or anything?

Definitely sounds like a trip to the vet, just to be sure.

Blood in the stool could be very minor - even simply due to hard stool. If she doesn't seem ill, I'd call a reg vet on Monday and see what they say.

Could actually be worms. One of our cats had blood in the feces which turned out to be from her licking her butt

Blood in a cats stool is usually not a serious condition unless it is a lot of blood or lasts for more than a day or two. Blood in the stool can be caused by several things such as; eating sharp blades of grass, bowel and stomach irritations, parasites and ####### glands. The first two conditions usually will clear up on their own in a day or two, unless you cat has developed an irritable bowel condition usually caused by stress. Parasites such a coccidia and giardia can cause runny bloody diarrhea and gets worse over time and should always be seen by a veterinarian. Other types of worms can also cause bloody stool and should be treated by a vet. If your cat is an outside cat and drinks from outside water sources, it may have picked up a parasite. ####### glands can also cause bloody stools. There are two glands on each side of the ####### and they can sometimes become impacted. If this is the case, you may see your scooting.

Since the first sign of illness in a pet is any change in behavior, appetite or bowel movements, we recommend you take your cat to the vet for a complete check-up.

i have alot of trouble with constipation in my kitty and had blood as one of the side effects. we had to switch to soft (canned) food only and get him a water fountain that is constantly flowing through a filter. this cleared it up.

Sorry I fell asleep last night - but I'm back. Ok her behavior seems fine. She's totally playful and normal. She is eating fine as well. This is the first time i've seen the blood, but I'll keep my eye on it. Luckily we're boarding her at our vet while we're in Oz...so they can keep an eye on it!

bleh, i could not find the book. how old is the cat btw? also, are there any chemicals or plants the cat could have eaten that might have caused this?

Don't think so Charles. Her feces has been blood free today!! I'll keep you posted.
