Legal documentation needed for K-2 visa?

Hello,

I am the US citizen and am petitioning for my fiancé and his child who both live in Ghana. I’m wondering if anyone knows what legal documentation will be required at the embassy in Ghana then applying for the K-2 visa? My fiancé obtained custody of his son in June of 2013. The mother lives in Liberia and he traveled there in June and brought his son back to Ghana. In order to bring him from Liberia to Ghana he obtained a signed affidavit from the mother giving permission for the son to travel to Ghana, but it does not state permission to bring him to the US. They were never married and have no signed custody agreement to provide to the embassy. The mother has agreed to sign whatever is needed to allow the K-2 visa. Any input will be appreciated! I would suggest getting a similar document stating that the father has permission to take the son to the US. This is an embassy-specific issue but I would think it follows similar guidelines to what I've seen for other cases. Countries want to make sure that the parent leaving the country with the child has authorization from the other parent to do so.

Do you know what sort of authorization letter we need? Is there any specific document? Or will any notarized letter from the mother stating that she is giving permission for her son to permanently immigrate to the US with the father suffice?

I don't think there's a specific document, at least I've never seen references to any. A notarized statement giving permission should be sufficient.
