I am in a delema... my 14 year old wants cute curls... she said she had a friend that used rags to tie up her hair?

well.. long story short.. we tried it last night.. my other daughter said . you just twist the hair then tie it with the rag. NOOOOOOO... oh my gosh. I now have a 14 yrs old going into Linda Blaire mode. Totally not the hair she was thinking of.. it looks more like twisted dead dreads with out the true dread knots...

Has anyone done the curls that make the springy shirly temple curl?

HOW DO YOU DO IT???

Yes... I used to do them on myself when I was younger, and on my girls...

You don't need rags... you can use tissues. Just take small sections of damp hair and wrap them around the tissue in the direction your want the curl. You can twist the hair first for extra curl, or leave it straight as if you were wrapping hair around a roller. Take extra care to make sure the ends are neatly tucked as you begin the curl, or they will not turn out right. You can always touch up with a hot curling iron afterwards.

One of the tricks is to alternate the sections of hair as you go row by row, so start at the crown of her head and finish the top row before you tackle the next row. Be sure that the sections have an even amount of hair in each...

After you're curled the hair around the tissue or small rag, tie it as if you were making a loose knot in a shoe lace. See how it falls when you're done. If it pulls to one side, it will do so when it's dry...

Good luck!!

Jen

edited to add: I'm surprised that your 14-yr old is interested in this type of look... I would have expected someone much younger to want 'cute'... the older ones want 'cool' !!

It is when an imperfect couple learns to enjoy their differences.

Wow posted a response yesterday.. nothing is showing..

First Thanks Jen.. I agree. it can be a cutsie look.. if they are younger.. however.. this is a group of 14 yr olds.. .. and if one does something new.. its considered cool.. haha. a fellow volleyball player of my daughter showed up with her hair in ringlets... and now.. the team all wants to have the ringlet look...... guess we just have to crawl into the head of the 14 yrs olds.. or not..

Kez & Jen I printed off the information both gave .. and gave to my daughter.. the ball is not in her court.. heheh.

Nizzy.. Go figure.. I have extremely straight hair... and of course.. used to pay out the ears to get a slight curl.. now .. im at the ultra straight look.. and nothing not even the stiffist hair spray will hold a curl on my hair... whether it be straight or curly.. we ladies always want it different... hehehe

Years ago when my daughter was into that kind of thing I was able to buy foamy bendable tubes that you wrapped the hair around and she could sleep with them in...they worked pretty well.....I remember having my hair ragged as a kid also

awesome!

after spending 4 hours yesterday with the curning iron to get ready to go to the theatre then an xmas party, and not wanting 'bar-hair' all I could think about was my mom doing my sisters hair in rags when we were kids (I had a brush cut lol). Now mine is over 4 feet long and I just cant spend tha kind of tme on hair...i am afraid of a perm (well the cost of one anyways) but love the curls...I am going to attempt this tonight. I just dont know if its going to be possible to do my own as it would be to do to someone else....its a LOT of hair
