Not changed name yet- please help

Hi guys, probably a stupid question with a really obvious answer but better to be safe than sorry!

On the G325a form and any others that ask my full name, should I put my husband's last name as my last name?

I haven't officially changed it yet but I probably will soon... Does it need to say his name on my passport for them to accept it as my name?

Or is it safe just using my maiden name on the forms for now?
I'm probably going to change my name on my SSC very soon as in, within the next week, so is that enough evidence for them to accept it as my new name?

If you got married and if you elect to take a new name then your name is already changed. There is no official place to do it, you just start using the new name and getting IDs in the new name.

USCIS will accept you marriage cert as a valid name change document.

Yayyy thankyou! And what do I put as my country of citizenship? Would it still be the UK as I'm not an American citizen for like another 2 years after I get my green card?

Yes, of course. You are a UK Citizen.

And you won't be eligible to be a US Citizen until at least 3 years after you get your GC.

You might want to consider not using your married name (husbands last name) on any documents.

If you use husband's last name on some documents, this will cause you numerous problems when you travel back and forth UK - USA.

i.e. You will have some documents, passports, etc., with your previous name and some with married name. Perhaps you own property in UK whose ownership name won't jive with your new married name, etc.

Your school and university transcripts and work history won't match up with your married name, etc.

I see no real advantages to using the husbands name, and a lot of disadvantages especially so in International marriages.

Put United Kingdom. I saw a post where a person put UK and their greencard arrived saying country of citizenship--UNKNOWN. Hahaha

No, this is not an issue. Married women change their name all the time; it's not news.

There is no reason to not change your name, if you want to change it.

Of course everyone knows that married women change their name all the time. Of course it is not news.

But I gave very good reasons why it can cause problems in International marriages where the person travels back and forth on passport of another country and perhaps owns property in other countries.

I have personally seen a lot of trouble for women at passport control when they show up with various documents in different names.

The woman I am marrying and I are well aware of these problems and she has no intention of using her married name on any official documents.

This could change 10-15 years down the road when she disposes of property in another country in her name, gets USA citizenship and can get USA Passport, etc. But until then, much less hassle to just keep using her current last name on everything.

Women who have passports in the maiden name should travel with their marriage license to show the name change. And if they will reserve the ticket in the passport name, there is less explaining at the airline counter.
