My fiancé just picked up his packet 3 and 4 from the USA embassy in Ghana. While we were reading through the requirements, it states that the form I-134 need to be notarized. Is it important to have 1-134 affidavit of support to be notarized? The instructions states that its no longer need to be notarized. Why then are they requiring it to be notarized in Ghana?

The I-134 is a USCIS form (Department of Homeland Security).

The consulate is part of the Department of State, so they can add requirements beyond what is shown in the instructions furnished with the form. Getting a form "Notarized" is easy and inexpensive, so why not just do it, if that is what the US embassy in Ghana requires. Package stores, real estate offices, banks, print shops, and post offices are among the various places you might find a notary.

Always follow the instructions from your consulate. Each one has different procedures and requirements, and you must follow what they ask for at the one you will interview at.

The IV Unit has a stack of I-134s from 1994, and has never gotten replenished for the new form.

Suggest you look at the OMB notice around the form, itself, let us know about the year and OMB form number .

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !

Just have it done, better to be safe than sorry! And like The Patriot has said, it's easy and inexpensive.

Are you looking at optional form 171, rev: 10-07? I wouldn't be surprised they are still using the old forms!!!!!

I just pulled our papers from our interview in 2010 and it said "Evidence of financial support: I-134 Affidavit of Support, a notarized copy. Most recent tax returns" - we did not notarize our copy of I-134 and did tax transcipts which i would highly suggest in Ghana as some who didnt had to get them for a 2nd interview...
